FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO
RYAN: For the first time in my life, I may officially buy a DVD of a documentary. It’s “For the Bible Tells Me So.”
CAROLINE: This is a compelling documentary film that has a very important message about the Bible and the condemnation of homosexuality.
RYAN: I was absolutely riveted from beginning to end. Obviously, I could relate to it and identify with it thematically as a gay. And I liked how it not only covered religious perspectives but also showed the societal and political ramifications of condemning homosexuality.
CAROLINE: It hit an emotional chord as well. Basically, it follows five very religious Christian families each of which has a gay family member, and it shows the different ways that they handle it. It’s incredibly powerful.
RYAN: Daniel G. Karslake, the filmmaker, did an amazing job. The music and the editing are great, and it’s even funny in parts.
CAROLINE: Good use of stock footage too.
RYAN: Everything was just well done and obviously the topic is very close to my heart. I think I’m gonna buy it when it comes out on DVD and screen it for my friends and family.
CAROLINE: It’s a real eye-opener, not so much for us since we’re pretty clear on our stance about homosexuality as the radio version of “Will & Grace,” but for people who might be questioning their Biblical teachings. And LBH, the conservative Christian faction in this country is so outspoken – why don’t we get to see the other side for a change? This movie shows it.
RYAN: For sure. Bottom line?
CAROLINE: Many documentaries can be boring, but this one isn’t at all. It’s informative and interesting and as you said, funny. I’d definitely recommend it.
RYAN: It’s a really inspiring film, and I hope people walk away with a better understanding about why it’s important to not feel shame about being gay, why it’s important to come out and why it’s important to accept gays and understand why people are gay.
CAROLINE: Amen.
