FOOL’S GOLD

RYAN: “Fool’s Gold” re-teams screen greats Matt McConaughey and Kate Hudson for the first time since “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”

CAROLINE: One thing this movie has going for it, and there aren’t many, is the chemistry between Kate and Matt. They really do light up the screen as a pair. Maybe it’s because they look like brother and sister.

RYAN: True, but they are so perfect together. They would have gorgeous children. They just look like he smells bad and she smells great and together they could market their own fragrance.

CAROLINE: This movie takes place largely on a boat, in the water and on the beach, so there’s ample opportunity for Matt to flaunt his chiseled bod and for Kate to run around in a bikini.

RYAN: They’re both gorgeous. But I’m surprised that neither of them drowned during the filming of this movie. I can’t believe all the underwater stuff they had to do! I kept thinking, “Oh my God, if I had to do this, I’d be dead.”

CAROLINE: That’s why they don’t pay you the big bucks. Everyone had to get SCUBA certified for this movie, but of course, Mr. Abs already had his certification, so he just went for an advanced one. But let’s cut to the chase – this movie kind of blows.

RYAN: [laughs’ I was so bored.

CAROLINE: Honey, you fell asleep.

RYAN: Honestly, I fell full-stop asleep, like, 4-6 times. But I only had about 2 hours of sleep the night before, so that was part of the problem. Still, I felt bad that I was missing the movie each time I woke up and then I would get bored with it again and just snooze along.CAROLINE: This movie just isn’t very good, hence the February release date. I did enjoy some of the nautical stuff, but the only real redeeming thing about it is the two stars. Other than that, it’s an inane movie about looking for a buried treasure from 1715.

RYAN: LBH, I love the “National Treasure” movies and movies about adventure and treasure seeking, and this movie aspires to that but there was no drive or inspiration. And it was so long and boring that even when they’re describing the treasure and it’s supposed to be exciting, it was not.

CAROLINE: It should have been 90 minutes long, but it’s at least an hour and 45, and it truly felt longer than 2 hours. I found myself thinking, “My God, when is this movie gonna end?” And I actually like Kate and Matt. BTW there are random subplots about other people also looking for the treasure and you just don’t care about any of them. One of them is played by Ray Winstone, however, who was Beowulf last year, and let’s just say, they were really creative with the C.G.I. in that movie because he’s way out of shape. And by that I mean fat.

RYAN: He’s got the body of Adonis in “Beowulf” but not so much in real life. Also, Donald Sutherland is great as Kate’s rich boss but the girl who plays his daughter is so over-the-top and ridiculous.

CAROLINE: I know they had to make clothes in size double-0 because of how skinny celebs are these days, but I don’t think this chick could even fit into that size. She’d be a quintuple-0. It’s frightening.

RYAN: She was also too young. Bottom line?

CAROLINE: If you’re a fan of Kate and Matt, “Fool’s Gold” is enjoyable to some degree, especially given the limited movie options of this time of year. But it’s pretty weak.

RYAN: This movie made me seasick.  I was so psyched going into it for the re-teaming of Matt & Katie but it was too boring.  Thankfully, Matt did his fair share of “chest acting;” often shirtless, that was the best part of his performance in the film. My advice is to skip it in the theater, wait for it on DVD, watch the first 10 minutes and then zoom forward an hour and watch the rest.

CAROLINE: The beach scenes are fun, and the last 20 minutes get a little bit exciting, so I think that is the best way to see it.

Thanks For Viewing The FOOL’S GOLD

I love Kate… I love Matt… Hated this movie. It was a HUGE disappointment. I was so disappointed that I got up in the middle of it to do LAUNDRY! I’ve even felt the need to warn those unsuspecting souls in the video store to put the movie down and make another selection… I’ve never done that before but I would hate for someone to waste their hard earned $3 when they could rent something else.
