Escape Plan Review
RYAN: I was completely dreading this movie. It looks like a cliche boy movie – the pairing of Arnie and Sly in a testosterone fest – and I wasn’t in the mood but wow! This movie is successfully entertaining. I really like it!
CAROLINE: Really? Yeah I’m kinda surprised. I didn’t think you would.
RYAN: Well it’s a suspenseful and interesting story that really makes you hold your breath a couple times. And I must admit, these are roles that cater to exactly what you wanna see Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger do.
CAROLINE: Well if you must watch them, it’s good to know they’re not biting off more than they can chew in a scene.
RYAN: I mean, seeing Arnold in this was refreshing. He has a few of those typical, quotable Arnie action movie lines but I actually enjoyed them. They felt fresh this time and were fun and appropriate. It didn’t hinge on cheesy which I appreciated.
CAROLINE: That’s cool. What about Sly’s face?
RYAN: His bad plastic surgery is settling in nicely; he looks good finally. His face isn’t as hard to look at as in recent years. But his arms look veiny and painful, like, they make Madonna’s arms and hands look pretty.
CAROLINE: [laughs] Ouch. Well, they both have worked out a lot, honey.
RYAN: And I don’t know whether Anrie’s had any work done but his face looks fantastic.
CAROLINE: He probably has, you know Hollywood.
RYAN: There’s also Amy Ryan.
CAROLINE: Love her!
RYAN: Love her. She’s so good in everything but adds something special to this too.
CAROLINE: And what about Jesus, aka Jim Caviezel?
RYAN: He was so good! He plays a bad guy superbly. It was good to see him in this. As well as Sam Neill who doesn’t have a huge role but makes an impact. This movie is slick. The set design is very impressive and the story is intricate without ever confusing you.
CAROLINE: And you actually liked the script.
RYAN: I did. It’s a great action movie. You might wonder whether these guys still “got it” but they do and they’re kickin’ butt and takin’ names in this film.
CAROLINE: Ok settle down. Are you really raving about this?
RYAN: Look, it’s not an Oscar calibur film by any stretch of the imagination but it’s entertaining and fun and good action. And it’s something different right now. And we have to face it – Anrie and Sly are movie stars. When they’re good, they’re great and this movie is a winner.
