Dumb and Dumber To Review

Dumb Dumber ToRYAN: After ten years, I don’t think anyone was really hankering for a sequel to Dumb and Dumber; alas, here it is.  And I wish it should go back to where it came from.

CAROLINE: That bad, huh?  I can’t say I’m surprised.

RYAN: It’s not like it’s refreshing being with these idiots again.  I mean don’t get me wrong.  I like Jeff Daniels and I love Jim Carrey but these is not their best work.  Jim is slightly better than Jeff.  They both super-commit to these characters and they do good character work, obviously.  But with Jeff it comes across a bit more like overacting.  Not like Jim is natural, but he’s funnier.

CAROLINE: Yeah I hear you.  But doe Jim sort of default into his typical sounds and faces?

RYAN: Yes but he’s not overexposed liked he used to be so it’s not annoying.  I will say the part of the humor that worked was the physical comedy and I wish there was more of that.  All of the dialogue illustrating how dumb they are was sometimes cute but never made me LOL.  And there’s just so much toilet humor, or gross things, or making fun of the disabled that it’s borderline offensive.

CAROLINE: I always find it interesting the fine line that comedians walk between what is funny and what is offensive.  That envelope is always being pushed.  Some get away with it better than others.

RYAN: Yeah, Sarah Silverman, Sacha Baron Cohen… this movie isn’t clever though.  Even the main plot that basically ties all of the stupid humor together doesn’t work.  It’s so out there, it may as well have involved aliens.  The climax of the movie is so anticlimactic they should;t have even tried for it.

CAROLINE: Lame.  Was there anyone else of note in it?

RYAN: Kathleen Turner is back.  It’s just sad this is what she returns in.  Though it’s nice to see an actress who is aging gracefully.  It’s cool to just see her regardless of what it’s in, really.

CAROLINE: Yeah she’s not popped up in anything recently.

RYAN: There’s also one cameo which is just ridiculous.  It’s Honey Boo Boo’s Mama June.

CAROLINE: Stop.  DId anyone laugh?

RYAN: No.  It’s such a dud.  This whole movie is a dud.  I think everyone walking out of the film was disappointed, except for the few high school kids who were laughing during it, but I was actually thinking, “Really?  You find this funny?” But to each, his own.

CAROLINE: Indeed.

RYAN: Just re-watch the original if you must, but don’t see this one.

SKIP IT
