DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS

RYAN: We’re big fans of The Steve Carell and The Paul Rudd so I was absolutely looking forward to their bromantic comedy Dinner for Schmucks.

CAROLINE: Me too and only international travel has kept me from it. How did you like it?

RYAN: It’s very amusing. Not really laugh out loud funny but cute and sometimes clever but overall it’s a comedy with a moral to the story.

CAROLINE: You didn’t LOL?

RYAN: Not really. But I was tickled, you know? And there are some genius ad lib moments what with Zach Galifianakis and Jemaine Clement as the supporting cast.

CAROLINE: Love Jemaine! But I’m only lukewarm on Zach.

RYAN: But my favorite supporter had to be Lucy Punch whom I adore from playing one of Anne Hathaway’s wicked stepsisters in Ella Enchanted.

CAROLINE: Thus I don’t know who the eff she is.

RYAN: She’s British and does the best American accent here and is a complete scene stealer, even opposite Steve, which is a feat unto itself.

CAROLINE: Completely. It sounds high-lar. I wonder if I’d have chortled aloud. Not that that’s the best test of a comedy but maybe.

RYAN: It’s by the same director as the Austin Powers flicks and exec produced by Sacha Baron Cohen.

CAROLINE: Did Sacha make a cameo?

RYAN: None. That woulda been cute! There’s this one lady at the dinner party scene who was beyond – lit’rally. She played an animal medium and I could have watched her all night. I’d go see her in concert. You kinda have to see the movie to know what I mean but I wish I could learn her skillz.

CAROLINE: I do still want to see this.

RYAN: Steve’s makeup job is pretty good. He must have put on some poundage too for this movie.

CAROLINE: He does look like quite a paunchy Schmuck on the poster.

RYAN: And you know, even as the straight man, Paul’s terrif.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: It’s not a must see on the big screen but there are not any moments of regret either. Overall it’s an enjoyable, amusing bromance with heart. There’s a good message about trust and friendship under all the hijinks.
