Deadfall Review
RYAN: This is one of those movies that’s available on iTunes before its release and I watched the trailer one night, thought it looked suspenseful, liked the cast. and so I rented it.
CAROLINE: Was it worth it?
RYAN: Not really. It’s rather forgettable.
CAROLINE: That’s too bad. And you paid for it!
RYAN: I know! But it stands to reason they can’t all be winners.
CAROLINE: So how is the cast? We usually enjoy Eric Bana.
RYAN: I always like him and he’s fine in this but it’s just a randomly paced film. He looks good but his character is such an arse it’s hard to really like him. The movie is brutally violent.
CAROLINE: Oh. Good to know.
RYAN: Yeah I was shocked by some of the violence… almost like in a Coen brothers movie.
CAROLINE: That is rather bloody.
RYAN: Oliva Wilde is fine but I don’t think she’s very deep as an actress. She does a lot of acting with her Wilde eyes.
CAROLINE: How’s Sissy Spacek?
RYAN: Shes fine… She plays a mom and she doesn’t have too much to do. I really like Charlie Hunnam and he’s also fine in this but it’s more about he’s easy to look at.
CAROLINE: Is it at least suspenseful and a decent thriller?
RYAN: A little bit. It’s 90 minutes long but feels strangely short. Again, I think the biggest issue is the pacing. Oh – the best part is probably Kate Mara.
CAROLINE: Oh, she’s in this?
RYAN: Yeah and it’s nice seeing her but it’s overall this has a pretty weak script. Some of the scenes have much promise but then the movie just falls flat. I watched it at home and though I got through the whole thing, it was a waste of time. So many better movies out there.
