DAYBREAKERS

RYAN: “Daybreakers” is a new sci-fi vampire flick that I knew very little about going in but still enjoyed.

CAROLINE: All I knew was that it was a sci-fi vampire flick, which is why I sent you to the screening without me.

RYAN: That was a good call because this is definitely a shocking movie. It’s got a lot of gore and several jump-out-of-your-seat moments. But it’s a very original story, which I really appreciate.

CAROLINE: I’m glad you liked it, but I’m so not into this genre, and I know it would have given me nightmares.

RYAN: Please – I’ve already had moments walking down the street where I’m afraid I’m gonna look at someone and they’re gonna turn into a vampire. It’s truly that scary.

CAROLINE: I understand Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke are in it.

RYAN: Yes, and both give good performances. And Sam Neill is in it too and he’s fab in this! It’s the perfect role for Willem Dafoe. Ethan’s fine, but I can’t say I’m a huge fan. It takes place in 2019 when 95% of society has turned into vampires and humans are an endangered species.

CAROLINE: I read that this movie was filmed in 2007 and has been biding its time on a shelf since then. So I’ll assume this is a true January release?

RYAN: Well, that’s never a good sign, but I must admit that the story’s originality and the great special effects made me really liked this movie. And vampires are bigger than ever now; though this certainly is no “Twilight.” These vampires aren’t sexy, honey.

CAROLINE: No, this doesn’t seem like one for the teens.

RYAN: It’s a very stylish movie though. Great set design, and the color treatment is great. I thought it was beautiful.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: It’s a fun movie that has some interesting twists and turns. For anyone who appreciates a good scare, it’s worth seeing in the theater.
