CRANK

RYAN: Oh my God, let’s get crunk!
CAROLINE: Well, that was a high-octane film.
RYAN: It certainly was. And it was called, “Crunk.”
CAROLINE: No, it’s “Crank.”
RYAN: Starring one really hot Brit.
CAROLINE: You took the words right out of my mouth! He is H-O-T and
I was really jealous of Amy Smart when she got to make out with him –
among other things.
RYAN: Um, yeah, there were some really creative… love scenes, shall we call them?
CAROLINE: (laughs) Something like that. But the lead guy, Jason Statham, was great.
The movie was a little manic, as you said to me whilst we were watching
it.
RYAN: Yeah, I almost got a headache in the first half hour.
CAROLINE: And then it chilled out a little bit. At first, I was like,
“Are they gonna keep up this wacky editing and filming for the whole
movie?” But then they stopped it, so that was good.
RYAN: It felt like a Len Wiseman movie, the guy who
directed “Underworld.”
CAROLINE: Mercifully, I haven’t seen that so I wouldn’t know.
RYAN: Well, anyway, it stopped being like that and then became a nice
balance of action and humor.
CAROLINE: Not to mention, a whole lotta gore!
RYAN: There definitely were some Quentin Tarantino moments.
CAROLINE: I loved Amy Smart. She was so cute, playing a sort of
clueless girlfriend type. But she looked great. I liked her hair.
RYAN: And the international cast that rounded out the film was really good.
CAROLINE: It’s a fun movie but it’s definitely not for everyone. For example, if you’re afraid to see a man’s hand get chopped off with a
cleaver, this is not a film for you.
RYAN: Exactly. There was a lot of grossness.
CAROLINE: But it worked for the movie. I think Quentin Tarantino is
an apt comparison.
RYAN: At some moments, I was almost bursting out “I can’t believe it!”
CAROLINE: It was almost over-the-top to the point where I was like,
“Clearly I haven’t done enough drugs in my life!”
RYAN: Um, yes… you have. (laughs)
CAROLINE: And the movie allowed plenty opportunities for stunt men to
get some work.
RYAN: Totally. There were some amazing stunts. I really liked the
speed of the film, especially after the first thirty minutes, when it
kind of mellowed out. It seemed to come together in a way that was
consistent with what the character was going through, so you kind of
felt your own adrenaline pumping.
CAROLINE: I agree, that was done very well. Bottom line?
RYAN: Great end-of-the-summer action film.
CAROLINE: Short and to the point, which is how we like it.
RYAN: And we liked the cross between Quentin Tarantino and “Terminator.”
CAROLINE: And “Speed.” And the eye candy ain’t so bad either.
RYAN: Amen, sister!
