COLOR ME KUBRICK
RYAN: We just saw the film titled: “Color Me Kubrick.”
CAROLINE: It’s sort of an indie little film which is only playing in select cities but if it’s playing in yours, we suggest you catch it.
RYAN: It’s light, frolicking fare.
CAROLINE: It takes place in London and the humor is tres Brit. And it stars John Malkovich.
RYAN: It’s a really different role for him. He plays a swishy, flamboyant gay dude.
CAROLINE: …who poses as Stanley Kubrick to con people out of money.
RYAN: I wonder if that would work for you or me.
CAROLINE: Something tells me no. And you may say, “But Stanley Kubrick is dead.” To which I would respond, “Yes, but this movie takes place in the late-90s when Kubrick was filming the oh-so-stellar Cruise/Kidman vehicle, “Eyes Wide Shut.”
RYAN: It’s eerie to see what people can get away with and what this guy did get away with.
CAROLINE: People totally thought he was Stanley Kubrick since nobody knew what he actually looked like. And it’s based on a true story, which is fun.
RYAN: I thought the costumes were really swanky.
CAROLINE: I liked seeing John Malkovich’s thighs in short shorts.
RYAN: Ew, that’s kinda gross.
CAROLINE: Yeah, it was a little.
RYAN: Come on, he’s a fugly man.
CAROLINE: Easy now! He’s super funny in this movie and he does a lot of great accents.
RYAN: Oh his accents were outstanding; but, I’m sorry. He’s ugly. He is an ugly man.
CAROLINE: I would not use the word “ugly.”
RYAN: …pretty on the inside. Whatever. You’re being so P.C. all of a sudden – like you’re gonna meet John Malkovich one day.
CAROLINE: [laughs’ What’s your bottom line?
RYAN: It’s an enjoyable film. It’s entertaining and not too long.
CAROLINE: It’s not a must-see in the theaters but it’s a fun rental if you’re looking for a quirky British film.
RYAN: It’s “Seeing John Malkovich Being Stanley Kubrick.”
CAROLINE: Well said.
