Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Review
RYAN: This is the new sequel and I didn’t love the first one as far as animated family films go. It was very average but I enjoyed this one much more. It’s much smarter with more layers to it. The humor and story are good. There’s a nice message too.
CHUCK: I did like the first one but agree this sequel is better. It was more inventive. The look is similar but because of the food-animals, there was more detail and more interesting things to look at. Great family film.
RYAN: For a sequel, it has a clever premise. It starts out with a flashback that sets up the new story and it worked very well.
CHUCK: I agree. It was a very funny almost-parody of Jurassic Park. Did you get that?
RYAN: Totally. There were so many things that played well to the adults in the audience and I LOL’d a couple times, mostly in the beginning. But the visual detail and aesthetic of these food animals are just brilliant. And the names for all of them were so clever and funny – I loved that aspect… so creative.
CHUCK: I wish I could have been at the table meeting where they were just going around, coming up with the cross breeds of food animals.
RYAN: Shrimpanzee.
CHUCK: And it’s the kind of movie you’ll have to see three times to catch every detail.
RYAN: While the dialogue and story was happening, there are other comedic bit going on in the background. There’s a lot going on in this movie.
CHUCK: The monkey is hilarious. The voice talent is great in this.
RYAN: Bill Hader, Anna Farris, Will Forte.
CHUCK: Kristen Schaal as Barb was great. She’s so quirky and funny. It’s a good script and a lot of fun.
RYAN: I like how the company he goes to work for is a total rip off of Google or Apple.
CHUCK: Right the dream company that everyone wants to work for that pumps you full of caffeine all day. I’d wanna work there too.
RYAN: The movie also really gives personality to these food animals. You almost wish some of them were real and you could cuddle up to them.
CHUCK: They were adorable. The 3D isn’t necessary for this one.
RYAN: Agreed but the movie is good for all ages to be entertained. It’s better than the first and if you have kids to take, they’ll love it.
