CHRONICLE
RYAN: Chronicle puts The Blair Witch Project twist on a superhero movie and it’s not completely unfortunate.
CAROLINE: I didn’t think you were going to see this one. What happened?
RYAN: I had a spare 83 minutes this weekend.
CAROLINE: [laughs’ It’s seriously that short?
RYAN: Yes. And that worked in favor of this movie.
CAROLINE: Did it suck that much?
RYAN: No. It is actually better than expected. Considering there are no famous people in it and it’s like one of those “found tapes” kind of shaky-cam movies, it pretty much rocked… for about 50 of the 83 minutes.
CAROLINE: Oh really. That’s refreshing.
RYAN: The acting wasn’t that good. It seemed a bit amateurish on that level and the script isn’t brilliant but here’s where it really worked – the effects.
CAROLINE: Yeah, they look pretty cool in the trailer.
RYAN: These Blair Witch/Paranormal Activity type of movies are relatively cheap considering how they’re made and cast, but the special effects in this one were quite good so I imagine it wasn’t too cheap.
CAROLINE: So it’s not really a must see, but not a total loss, either?
RYAN: Right. The action sequences were pretty effective as well. I’m not surprised it opened #1 at the box office this weekend, just slightly edging out The Woman in Black. It’s definitely geared more for the teen male crowd but if you’re a fan action or superpowers, I’ll recommend… otherwise you can wait to catch it on TV sometime.
