BACHELORETTE

RYAN: I was really quite excited to see this.  Women in comedic films are a big deal now… since Bridesmaids hit, several were greenlit and this is one such film.  And it should not have been.

CAROLINE: Not have been greenlit?
RYAN: Should not have been made, correct.  It’s awful.  It’s a sad state of affairs for women in film, no pun intended.
CAROLINE: The trailer looks funny though.  Was even comical?
RYAN: Nein! I didn’t LOL even once in this movie.  And the cast is good.  But seriously, who casts a comedy and puts Rebel Wilson in the straight role?  I mean c’mon!  She’s one of the funniest ladies working today and you put her in the straight role?!  “Big mistake… huge.”
CAROLINE: “Do you work on commission?”
RYAN: Thank you, Pretty Woman.
CAROLINE: You’re welcome.

RYAN: Kirsten Dunst is not popular among anyone I know yet I’ve been a loyal fan since her prepubescent kiss with Bradley Pitt in Interview with the Vampire. And I stand by her performance here.  She’s the best thing about this film but that’s not saying much.  The script is horrible. She shines in one scene at the end but aside from that scene, the rest of the film is tanked.
CAROLINE: Ew.  And the poster looks so much fun.
RYAN: I know.  The stripper in the poster is Andrew Rannells, star of TV’s new The New Normal. But he’s barely in the film which is a bummer cause he’s so good… and so hot.
CAROLINE: How’s Isla Fisher?
RYAN: OMG she’s so bad in this!  Like, the worst, most over the top, obnoxious performance I can recall.
CAROLINE: What?! That’s bananas.  She’s married to Sacha Baron Cohen.  There’s zero excuse for her to have bad comedic timing.
RYAN: Truly.  Here’s the thing – This movie is not funny and it shows one of the most egregious examples of women behaving awfully toward other women.  I know some girls are competitive but this is the frenemy movie to end all frenemy movies.  The characters are heinous.
CAROLINE: Oh honey, tell us how you really feel.
RYAN: It doesn’t work.  It was supposed to be this year’s Bridesmaids, but doesn’t even come close.  As someone who almost always enjoys chick flicks, even the very average variety, I was disappointed.  There’s a reason it didn’t get a wide release in theaters and is mostly just available on demand.  It’s bad.

Totally agree with your review. I ordered the film up one evening when I needed a laugh and it nearly brought me to tears. The film is incredibly negative and shows deterioration of women — truly the worst of circumstances that could happen. Skip it fo sho!

Totally! Thanks for the comment! I recommend "For a Good Time, Call" instead as a good girl-comedy! When that's available, check it out for fun! 🙂
