HOPE SPRINGS

RYAN: I mean come on.  It’s Meryl Streep in her first film since winning the Oscar for The Iron Lady… and it’s a rom com.  Well, actually it’s a romantic dramedy. But I think I like that better anyway.

CAROLINE: I was dying to go to this screening with you but couldn’t make it.  I am planning to see it.  How was it?

RYAN: Terrific.  You know they always say you could listen to Meryl read the phone book – she’s just that good.  And it’s kind of fun seeing her play just a regular suburban housefrau.

CAROLINE: [laughs’ A housewife.  Yeah she does appear sort of regular.

RYAN: Her wardrobe, the hair, the makeup… she’s very average and it’s, of course, appropriate to the role.  This movie has a terrific script.

CAROLINE: That is the basis of any good film.

RYAN: It’s a complicated look into a marriage and I actually liked Tommy Lee Jones in this too.  I’m not a huge fan of his in general but this role is so him.

CAROLINE: How hard is he to look at in this one?

RYAN: Not as bad as Men in Black 3.  I think they used Barbra Streisand’s soft lens on him or something because I could actually look at him this time.

CAROLINE: How about Steve Carell?  I love him.

RYAN: Me too.  He’s not comedic in this and he’s just fantastic.  And his wardrobe in the movie is funny. All of the knit ties cracked me up.

CAROLINE: I think he’s really cute.

RYAN: I was a little bit shocked by this movie.  It’s, like, a precursor to Fifty Shades of Grey.

CAROLINE: What?!?!

RYAN: Okay I’m exaggerating but it is a lot of sex talk and themes.

CAROLINE: Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

RYAN: Exactly. And I really loved the soundtrack, like, I wanna own it; just a ton of great pop songs.

CAROLINE: Oooh that’s cool.

RYAN: This film covers some heavy emotional and sexual territory in a very irreverent way.  I appreciate it and it definitely makes you think.  It’s also a good one to see and discuss afterward, maybe not on a first date though.
