ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT
RYAN: I’m so excited that my nephew, Noah, joins me for his first movie review. You’re almost 10 years old and this was the perfect movie to take you to. Ice Age: Continental Drift in 3D and the 3D was very cool.
NOAH: Yes it was. It really looked like things were coming out at you.
RYAN: It was very dynamic and all the animation was really amazing. It’s incredible how far it’s come since the first Ice Age ten years ago. All the fur and the ice and the water looks so real and cool. How did you like the movie?
NOAH: I liked it a lot because I like the Ice Age series and this one was cool.
RYAN: And I think this is one you don’t have to have seen the previous movies to follow it or get hooked. It’s an added bonus if you have familiarity with the characters and then you get this new chapter, but as far as story goes, this really can stand alone. The one storyline it really furthers is that of Scraps.
NOAH: Who?
RYAN: The little squirrel who’s chasing the acorn.
NOAH: His name is Scrat!
RYAN: [laughs’ I know. Just kidding.
NOAH: I was nervous for him when the shark ate him. I wondered if something happened to him in there.
RYAN: Well his story kinda wraps up at the end. It’s very clever, actually. What was your favorite part of the movie?
NOAH: I actually like the last part when they were all singing a song over the end credits and you see who the actors are that voice all the characters.
RYAN: That’s very cool. There was also another song in the film, like a musical number, by the pirate monkey character. I really liked J.Lo as the voice of the Shira, the sabre-toothed tiger. Who was your favorite character?
NOAH: The granny slough.
RYAN: Oh yeah, voiced by Wanda Sykes. She was really funny. She gets some of the best lines.
NOAH: Yeah.
RYAN: And there are a lot of great themes touched upon in this – friendship, family ties, coming of age, and camaraderie. Was there any part that you identified with or related to?
NOAH: When the mammoth misses her dad. It’s like my dad. He goes away but I always know he’s gonna come back.
RYAN: What did you think of the animation?
NOAH: I love animation so any animated movie I like, so I loved it.
RYAN: Do you think your friends would like this?
NOAH: Yes I do.
RYAN: Do you think it’s more of a boy or girl movie or for everyone?
NOAH: For everyone.
RYAN: Did you find any of it scary?
NOAH: Nope.
RYAN: Animation is so brilliant this year. The hair in Brave, all the environments in this film – they’re really major achievements for the industry. The realness factor just keeps growing by leaps and bounds.
