PEOPLE LIKE US
RYAN: This movie’s coming out at such a random time of year since it’s the big blockbuster season. We’re a week away from Spider-Man and next month is Batman and this just seems so oddly placed.
CAROLINE: I know. It’s gotta be hard for earnest movies like this to compete with big effects films.
RYAN: And yet once in a while, a good drama comes out that’s worth getting out to see at any time.
CAROLINE: Some people aren’t into the big mainstream movies being shoved down their throat.
RYAN: Well we appreciate all types of film and this one is actually really engaging.
CAROLINE: Really? How’s Lizzy Banks?
RYAN: Actually this is her finest performance to date. She broke out in Hollywood doing comedy and she’s been trying to be more versatile, obviously, in her choices and this role really gives her a great canvas to paint. I was impressed by her dramatic chops.
CAROLINE: That’s fantastic. I love her so it’s cool to hear that. How’s her chemistry with C.Pine?
RYAN: I’m not a huge fan of Chris. He’s kind of interchangeable for me in leading roles and yet he gets work so maybe I’m missing something. He does have great eyes and he actually, also, reaches some emotional depths here. He and Eliz have really palpable chemistry in this movie.
CAROLINE: That is always so key. And of course we love Michelle Pfeiffer.
RYAN: Always. She’s so friggin gorge and good. She plays Chris’s mom and it’s a really interesting relationship. They have some good moments too.
CAROLINE: Who’s the kid in the movie?
RYAN: Michael Hall D’Addario – he’s done mostly TV before this and he’s really great too. I would give him a haircut though.
CAROLINE: Aw his hair might be his thing.
RYAN: If you want a break from the 3D and the effects and all that this summer, this movie is a great option. It’s a very effective drama with a good story and great performances.
