CLICK
RYAN: I feel kinda good after seeing this exciting movie on Gay Pride Day.
CAROLINE: On this Pride Day, we went to see “Click” starring Adam Sandler and Kate Beckinbitch.
RYAN: And it was actually better than I thought it would be. Sort of a “Christmas Carol” redux.
CAROLINE: Or an “It’s a Wonderful Life” redux.
RYAN: I guess so.
CAROLINE: I mean, I’ve never seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” but still. (laughs)
RYAN: Neither have I, so I really feel I can’t comment. But “Click” was definitely like “A Christmas Carol” without the Christmas part.
CAROLINE: I am surprised at how much I liked this movie. I thought it was going to be a broad comedy that I would chuckle through and probably not like that much. But as it turns out, Adam Sandler is not only hilarious, but also likable, and this movie is both funny and sad.
RYAN: Yeah, it was funnier than I thought it would be. I mean, I’m sort of over Adam Sandler lately, like he’s sort of a one-trick pony and I’ve seen the trick and I’m over it. But he was really a lot more sentimental in this one and the movie was very sweet. And it had an incredible supporting cast – Christopher Walken, Julie Kavner, Henry Winkler, Jennifer Coolidge.
CAROLINE: And the two most adorable children in the history of film. They looked like real life bro and sis.
RYAN: And also Rachel Dratch. They really rounded out the cast and this was a well-written story and it’s kind of like “The Lake House” in that it has a science fiction twist to it.
CAROLINE: I was way into it. I’m not going to say much because I think it’s better the less you know, but going in to this, I thought it was just a comedy – and I was surprised to learn that that was not the case. And I’m just gonna leave it at that. It’s a good flick and no wonder it came in #1 this weekend.
RYAN: Yeah, and the effects were really good and the set design was fun, seeing him go back to the future and the past. It was a really well done movie and I understand why they wanted to release it in the summer and folks are eatin’ it up!
CAROLINE: Adam Sandler is perhaps not looking his best.
RYAN: He’s a little thick in the middle.
CAROLINE: And the face. And the neck.
RYAN: And by middle, I don’t mean the middle of the movie, I mean he’s actually fat.
CAROLINE: I felt like Beckinbitch had a little bit of a thankless role. There wasn’t a whole hell of a lot for her to do.
RYAN: Which is fine ‘cos she can’t act.
CAROLINE: She does an okay American accent though.
RYAN: She sounded a little New Yorky which is good.
CAROLINE: I, for one, am shocked at the renaissance of one David Hasselhoff, who is also a judge on “America’s Got Talent.” God knows why.
RYAN: On that show I can’t stand him but he was great in this movie.
CAROLINE: He was really good. His face is a little taut but he’s funny and natural. I was not a “Baywatch” viewer so I haven’t seen him act since “Knight Rider” and I thought he held his own. He was funny and hate-able, which was good for his character.
RYAN: Final thought?
CAROLINE: This was a pleasant surprise for me. I really enjoyed it. And I think it’s got a little bit of humor, a little bit of drama and I won’t lie to you – I wept.
RYAN: You know, I felt as though I could have wept but I wasn’t going to give this movie that honor. Let’s face it, it’s not one of the best films of the year, but it’s a fun summer film to see and it did hit all of those chords. It’ll give you the roller coaster emotions and I thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
CAROLINE: I’d like to give some props to the writers, I had some laugh out loud funny moments, especially early on.
RYAN: Yeah, LOL… and SOS.
