THE INNKEEPERS
RYAN: This movie was so stupid!
CAROLINE: Please, be blunt.
RYAN: Really… It’s one of those movies that’s just frustrating to watch because it’s so bad. It stars Sara Paxton, who I’ve worked with and actually really like, and she’s fine but the script and editing was atrosh. And some of the “suspenseful” moments were like watching paint dry.
CAROLINE: Gawd it sounds awful. I’m so glad I skipped this one. Though I don’t love scary movies to begin with.
RYAN: I’m also a little disappointed because Sara’s actually really pretty but looks so plain and boring in this; I know it’s because she’s the front desk gal and it’s role-appropriate, but still.
CAROLINE: She was also in the remake of the horror film Last House on the Left.
RYAN: That movie was so good and scary. Rent that one, people… instead of wasting your money on this flick. Pat Healy, the dude who co-stars with her at the front desk, is one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen on film. He lit’rally sounds like he’s just reading the script most of the time; like he couldn’t be bothered to try to act.
CAROLINE: [laughs’ That’s just bananas. How was Top Gun‘s Kelly McGillis? We haven’t seen her in ages.
RYAN: She doesn’t look like even a shadow of her former self. I don’t know how, but there’s barely a trace of the babe she once was. She’s a good actress but obviously rather wasted in this movie since the script is so bad.
CAROLINE: So it really wasn’t scary at all?
RYAN: There is some freaky imagery and good use of blood and gore at certain points but the build up to scary moments is so transparent and way too long and slow. And while this genre often uses music and editing to make you jump it’s just very poorly done in this case.
CAROLINE: Well that’s a shame. It’s much more exciting to actually be scared in a scary movie.
RYAN: It is what it is. And in this case, it’s a bad movie. If you’re in the mood for a scare, check out The Grey or one of the other new options this weekend.
