SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS
RYAN: I certainly loved the first film prior to this – what I hope to become a franchise. So I could barely wait for this sequel.
CAROLINE: And…?
RYAN: Loved it! It doesn’t surpass the first film but it’s as good a sequel as any can be, really. All the great things from the first a back – Rachel McAdams, the quick, witty banter between Downey and Law; the lavish, brooding costumes and design, the mystery that’s quick yet follow-able, the humor, and great effects.
CAROLINE: Well you definitely know how to sell it.
RYAN: Honey, I love these movies. Everything in it just clicks and works and it’s so easily watchable – truly great entertainment. I think the first one was my fave film of 2009.
CAROLINE: Well you certainly liked it a lot more than I did. I kinda just yawned. So I skipped this one altogether.
RYAN: It’s your loss really. It’s such terrific entertainment.
CAROLINE: It’s kind of a boy movie.
RYAN: I consider it more of a smart movie. It’s action, intrigue, a dash of romance… and RDJ. For me, it’s the stuff a perfect night at the movies is made of. I think you’d like this one.
CAROLINE: Whatever. I heard Rachel Mc is barely in it anyway.
RYAN: It’s true she has a small part but it’s still wonderful. And you know I never really adored Guy Ritchie as a director but he works it out so well in both Holmes films; I have to give him props.
CAROLINE: I just can’t help thinking he used to be married to Madonna, who, coincidentally, is now a director herself.
RYAN: …or maybe not coincidentally. I saw her film W.E. and we’ll have to discuss A.S.A.P.
CAROLINE: But back to Sherlock…
RYAN: It’s just thrilling. I would say it’s one of my favorite movies of the year once again. It has actually been a bit of a tough year for movies but this is a very decent break for entertainment. It has fantastic momentum, story, performances, style… It’s great.
