MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
RYAN: This is one movie not to be missed this awards season since everybody’s talking about Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe.
CAROLINE: She’s practically already received the Oscar nomination what with all the buzz. I haven’t seen it yet. How was it?
RYAN: It’s really great but better than the story itself is the casting. Michelle is indeed fabulous and there are a bunch of great British actors too, including some Harry Potter peeps.
CAROLINE: Emma Watson’s in it, right? Were you dying?
RYAN: She has a small role but it was really fantastic to see her not doing Hermione and she’s good. Judi Dench is incredible but doesn’t do anything we haven’t seen her do before. She reminded me of her character in Nine.
CAROLINE: How are Julia Ormond & Kenneth Branagh?
RYAN: They play Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, respectively, and he’s way much better than she is. She doesn’t even begin to embody or capture anything about Vivien. Kenny’s is better but let be honest, he’s rather brilliant in everything he does.
CAROLINE: And what about the boy star?
RYAN: He still is boyish aplenty – Eddie Redmayne. He’s the kid from Savage Grace, among other notable film titles. And he’s good. He makes you feel what it must be like to be a simpleton when the biggest icon o’ the world is thrust upon you.
CAROLINE: I can’t even!
RYAN: The period piece-ness of the film is great… all the cars, hair, costumes, etc…
CAROLINE: What about Michelle’s bod? It doesn’t look like she gained weight and she’s incredibly smaller than Marilyn Monroe was.
RYAN: Yes. It certainly looks like her hips and bust were padded. But honey, she seriously nails Marilyn. All of her winks, pouts, mannerisms, all of it, everything… it’s there to a T.
CAROLINE: This is on my list to see. Is it really entertaining?
RYAN: It is. I like all of the behind the scenes they show of Marilyn and Olivier making the movie The Prince and the Showgirl. It makes me wanna run out and see that actual film now. I’d actually like to brush up on some Monroe movies.
CAROLINE: This might be Michelle Williams’ year.
RYAN: It’s a quiet but fun movie that gives a little glimpse into the person behind the icon. She seems sad, tragic and lonely but also gifted beyond just the degorgeousness. And bravo Michelle!
