THE THREE MUSKETEERS

RYAN: I’m so pleasantly surprised by the latest incarnation of The Three Musketeers... in pretty much every respect.

CAROLINE: Oh really? I didn’t expect to hear that.

RYAN: That may be part of it. My expectations were low since it basically bombed at the box office last weekend.

CAROLINE: So who are these musketeers?

RYAN: They’re not big names but actually all excellent… and rather easy on the eyes… Plus there are other key roles in the film and it’s really an exceptional cast.

CAROLINE: I know from the endless TV ads there’s one Milla Jovovich.

RYAN: She’s awesome. And then there’s the villains from the likes of Orlando Bloom and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.

CAROLINE: I always found Orlando bland.

RYAN: He’s terrific here and Christoph as a bad guy, well, that’s just a given.

CAROLINE: He’s so good.

RYAN: And then there’s Juno Temple. She’s the other girl we loved in Atonement.

CAROLINE: Oh she is good.

RYAN: The story is exciting. I even clapped out a couple times. And aside from one scene when we’re first introduced to the young musketeer, which is very poorly written, the rest of the script is good. The costumes are lavish and intricate; same with the scenic design. And the 3D’s not half bad either.

CAROLINE: That’s refreshing.

RYAN: And the action scenes were great except for one detail… in all the sword slinging, there’s not a drop of blood; I’m assuming because they didn’t want to surpass the PG-13 rating.

CAROLINE: That’s sad.

RYAN: Overall, it’s just so much super fun and the best kind of escapism. I really enjoyed those two hours in the theater. The friends who joined me even said they could imagine going to see it again.
