BRIDESMAIDS

RYAN: We were highly anticipating Bridesmaids because we love comedy, we love the producer Judd Apatow and most importantly, we love Kristen Wiig.

CAROLINE: She really is the star of this movie. When you see the ads, they make it look like she and Maya Rudolph are the big co-stars, but Kristen really owns the movie and does a great job. I love her, and the movie is beyond hilarious.

RYAN: She also co-wrote and produced it. I thought she showed great range in her role, and LBH, the whole cast is genius.

CAROLINE: This is one of those movies where you’re like, “Please don’t let all the funny moments be in the trailer!” But actually, there’s a lot in the trailer that didn’t make the movie, so there are tons of scenes you won’t have seen before. And how refreshing to highly anticipate a movie and not be disappointed! It’s laugh out loud funny and even poignant at times.

RYAN: It’s definitely the best romantic comedy we’ve seen in I don’t know how long. I’m already ready for a sequel. It’s like The Hangover for the female set.

CAROLINE: It could have drifted too close to Hangover territory, what with the trip to Vegas and all, but they avoided that with clever plot twists. This movie wasn’t always what I expected, which was great. In spite of a couple over-the-top scenes, it’s a very realistic portrayal of female relationships, rivalry, jealousy, etc.

RYAN: I loved that it takes place in my hometown of Milwaukee. They shot a lot of exteriors there and I recognized several locations.

CAROLINE: Let’s break down the cast because there are a lot of people you’ll recognize and they’re all great – Ellie Kemper who plays Erin on The Office, the blond chick from Reno 911!, Rose Byrne from TV’s Damages and Melissa McCarthy who’s on Mike & Molly.

RYAN: I especially liked Rose Byrne. She rarely gets to play a bitch and she did it so well. I loved her costumes and the way she was constantly throwing money around. I think it’s hard to get a female driven comedy off the ground, and I’m so glad this one worked. Some of the situations are even funnier because it’s women not men, and there’s great romance too. The only thing that made me sad was seeing Jill Clayburgh because she died last year.

CAROLINE: She’s very well cast as Kristen Wiig’s mom; they look a lot alike. There’s also a great supporting role from Jon Hamm, who has one of the most interesting and versatile careers of anyone in Hollywood right now.

RYAN: And I loved the leading man, Chris O’ Dowd, who’s kind of an Irish version of a young Will Ferrell but nowhere near as annoying.

CAROLINE: Honey, he’s infinitely better looking than Will Ferrell! I had such a crush on him.

RYAN: Honestly, we must have laughed harder in this movie than we have in any movie in recent memory.

CAROLINE: I know! We’ve been waiting for a couple years for a good rom com and it’s finally here. I’m so happy this movie was as funny as we knew it could be.

RYAN: For people like us who see many movies, it’s a rare joy to have high expectations for a film and have them met or exceeded.

CAROLINE: You know a movie’s good when I turn to you at the end and say, “Nothing like a tight 90-minute movie!” and then realize that it was actually 2 hours long. It positively flew by.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: I highly recommend this movie. It’s very rated R with language and stuff, but that made it even better.

CAROLINE: It’s so funny, and it’s not even that profane all told. I don’t think anyone will be truly offended.

RYAN: Even with some of the boy humor added, like the poop scene in the bridal shop, it still worked. That scene was funnier than I thought it would be.

CAROLINE: It’s laugh out loud hilarious and even has some tender moments. I misted up a little at the end, I can’t lie. Don’t miss it!!
