Our Top Ten Movies of 2010

RYAN: Now that we’ve had a few days to reflect upon the year that was, let’s talk about our top ten favorite movies of 2010. Allow me to go first.

CAROLINE: Don’t I always?

RYAN: My top 5 are very clear: Shutter Island, The Fighter, Black Swan, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Burlesque. Do we have any overlap?

CAROLINE: In fact, we do! I’d also put Shutter Island and Black Swan in my top five, and I’d like to reiterate that I’m beyond irritated that no one is giving any awards love to Shutter Island. My other top movies are The Social Network, Rabbit Hole and The Town.

RYAN: I’d also like to give honorable mention to the very funny Easy A as well as Leaves of Grass, an awesome Edward Norton movie that nobody saw or talked about.

CAROLINE: Yeah, Leaves of Grass was really good. But its release date kept changing and it was never widely publicized for some reason. Hopefully people will discover it on DVD. I’d give my honorable mentions to 127 Hours, which is so well shot and has a great performance from our forthcoming Oscar host, James Franco, along with The King’s Speech, which is delightful and has a fabulous cast, and Conviction, the Hilary Swank movie that didn’t get much love for some reason.

RYAN: I fell asleep during The King’s Speech.

CAROLINE: I know, honey. It was a little grown up for you. Speaking of which, I’d like to give a late shout out to Tangled, which I didn’t get to see with you in the theater but recently watched on DVD and loved!!

RYAN: OMG are you serious!? You loved an animated movie!? This might be the happiest day of my life!

CAROLINE: I know; I’m a little shocked at how much I enjoyed it. It’s a real Disney princess movie, and I was into it from start to finish. Usually I can barely keep my eyes open during kids’ movies, but this one was great.

RYAN: I’m so glad of it! Now can we please discuss the worst movies of 2010? I’m torn between Cop Out and The Wolfman.

CAROLINE: I skipped The Wolfman, which seems like a good call. And I thought Cop Out had a couple of funny moments. For me, far and away the stupidest and worst movie of the year is Grown Ups. Adam Sandler should be ashamed. It was painful to watch.

RYAN: It was pretty awful… but it made more than $150 million at the box office.

CAROLINE: These are the things I will never understand.

RYAN: But overall I’d say it was a really good year for movies. Even better than 2009. I can’t wait to see what 2011 has in store for us!
