KEEPING UP WITH THE STEINS
RYAN: Well, I’m very impressed with you that you were invited to an advanced movie screening today, of the film, “The Da Vinci Code.”
CAROLINE: Well, I hate to disappoint you but it wasn’t “The Da Vinci Code.”
RYAN: “Poseidon?”
CAROLINE: Umm…unfortunately, no.
RYAN: What film did you see today?
CAROLINE: “Keeping Up With the Steins.”
RYAN: Opening this weekend, I believe?
CAROLINE: That’s true, you’re absolutely right.
RYAN: And what is your advanced reaction to the film?
CAROLINE: My advanced reaction to my advanced screening is that it’s a cute, small film. It’s got Jeremy Piven, who we all know and love from “Entourage” even though I don’t watch that show. And other such luminaries as Daryl Hannah and Jami Gertz.
RYAN: I love Jami Gertz! I love everything she’s done from “Twister” to “Ally Big Deal.”
CAROLINE: Don’t forget “Square Pegs.”
RYAN: Oh! Who could forget “Square Pegs?” So how is she in this movie?
CAROLINE: She looks fabulous!
RYAN: She really does. And she’s an excellent actress to boot.
CAROLINE: She’s wearing her age very well. The movie is cute…it’s about a family who are “keeping up with the Steins,” not the Joneses, get it? ‘Cos their Jewish. And they’re trying to outdo the Stein’s bar mitzvah for their own son.
RYAN: So it’s sort of like “My Super Sweet 16” for the bar mitzvah crowd?
CAROLINE: That’s absolutely right. The only problem is the lead kid kind of annoyed me. And he’s chunky. He’s the one from all the “Spy Kids” movies.
RYAN: Well, sometimes they go through that plump stage and grow out of it by the early teenage years.
CAROLINE: One thing that’s funny is the movie is directed by Scott Marshall and guess who his father is?
RYAN: Who?
CAROLINE: Garry Marshall. You may have heard of him?
RYAN: Ha.
CAROLINE: Wow, how did Scott Marshall get a directing gig? Must be because he’s just that talented.
RYAN: It’s like I’ve always said, “In Hollywood, it’s all who you blow.”
CAROLINE: (laughs) Exactly, although I really hope that’s not the case here.
RYAN: Father and son. Final thought?
CAROLINE: Anyway, it’s cute and I enjoyed myself. But it could definitely be a rental.
RYAN: Well, I want to see it. Sign me up for a little Jami Gertz.
