GET HIM TO THE GREEK

CAROLINE: Get Him to the Greek is one of those movies that when you first see the trailer you think, “This movie could be totally hilarious or really lame.”

RYAN: And now that you’ve seen it?

CAROLINE: It’s kind of eh. A few funny moments, but not enough for me to recommend it. I even told you not to bother going to the screening. I don’t think it’s up your alley.

RYAN: Yeah, I had zero interest in this one. Though I do kind of like Russell Brand and Jonah Hill. How’s Jonah’s girth these days?

CAROLINE: OMG he has the strangest body type! He carries all his fat in his face and stomach. It’s seriously alarming. He’s bigger than ever. And it was so unrealistic that he had a cute girlfriend in this movie.

RYAN: Oh no – who played her?

CAROLINE: Elisabeth Moss from TV’s Mad Men. I don’t always think of her as that pretty, but she’s very cute in this. Jonah is totally unworthy.

RYAN: How’s the comedy?

CAROLINE: It starts off strong. Russell Brand is playing the same crazy rock star he played in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Aldous Snow. There are some hilarious moments of fake interviews with Access Hollywood and a fake controversial video he’s made. But the movie’s premise is stretched very thin.

RYAN: Isn’t Jonah Hill’s character trying to get Aldous from London to a concert he’s performing in LA or something?

CAROLINE: Exactly, and there isn’t enough material to merit a movie of this length. It’s about an hour and 50 minutes, and it so needed to be only 90 minutes.

RYAN: Ugh, what is it with Judd Apatow? Why can’t get he realize that comedies aren’t meant to be nearly two hours long?

CAROLINE: Seriously. He didn’t direct this one, but he produced it. He has this problem all the time. You could tell they were ad libbing certain scenes and they went on way too long. In my head, I was thinking, “Cut! Cut now!” But they never did. It’s just not a funny enough story line to merit the length.

RYAN: Sounds like it got worse as it went along.

CAROLINE: For sure. And there are a lot of gross vomit jokes. Puffy is in it too by the way, as the head of the record label, and he’s actually pretty funny. He’s not the most natural actor, but he definitely did a good job. I laughed out loud at his jokes several times.

RYAN: I’m sorry but you couldn’t pay me to see this movie.

CAROLINE: I somewhat like Russell Brand, but his over-the-top antics got a little grating in this movie, LBH.

— BOTTOM LINE —

CAROLINE: It’s not the worst comedy I’ve ever seen, but it’s no great shakes. I had a good feeling at first because there were some genuine laughs, but it dissipated as the movie went along. It certainly has some funny moments, but they are few and far between. It needed to be much shorter and tighter. Overall, the plot was stretched too thin. But it’s a must see for Russell Brand fans and people who like jokes about drugs.
