WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY

RYAN: I’d been hearing in passing at other screenings so much about this new Disney documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty that I’d just been dying to see it.

CAROLINE: I’m so glad for you that you finally did. How was it?

RYAN: Fantastic. It details how the studio got it’s mojo back. And it’s tres juicy.

CAROLINE: It’s all about The Little Mermaid, right?

RYAN: Well it began there. Basically, Disney went down the stony end with The Black Cauldron and other animated flops. But then there was that historic comeback with Mermaid and it went on from there. This doc covers that, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, etc…

CAROLINE: Those were all really fab.

RYAN: OMG some of the best loved films of all time and deservedly so.

CAROLINE: Why was the change to making better movies so dramatic?

RYAN: Well it’s like anything, I suppose – never what it seems on the outside. Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Eisner didn’t see eye to eye.

CAROLINE: That was pretty public though.

RYAN: But they both participated in this film and it’s great hearing both sides. And it has footage and behind the scenes stuff you wouldn’t even find on DVD extras, you know? Plus there’s a young Tim Burton working at Disney and others.

CAROLINE: That’s amazing.

RYAN: Through the struggle came the genius.

CAROLINE: Ok, Aristotle.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: For the behind the scenes tell-all, the real life drama, the intrigue and even just the genius music – this doc is so worthy.
