New on DVD
CAROLINE: One of last year’s most critically acclaimed movies, The Hurt Locker, is new on DVD today, and I suspect a lot of people will want to rent it. Not many people saw it in the theater.
RYAN: Including me. You saw it though.
CAROLINE: I did, and I really don’t get all the buzz around it. It’s a well made movie, but it really just feels like a war documentary. I thought the acting was great, especially from Jeremy Renner, but other than that, I wasn’t into it.
RYAN: I can’t say I have much desire to see it; you know how I feel about war movies.
CAROLINE: No one can seem to get over the fact that a woman, Kathryn Bigelow, directed it. She’s guaranteed an Oscar nom and may even win. But I don’t get all the hype. Rent it for yourself and decide.
RYAN: Let’s drop several points on the quality scale and mention Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, which is also new on DVD today.
CAROLINE: Puh-leez. I can’t even deal with his movies anymore.
RYAN: Well, I saw this one and you didn’t so kindly allow me to talk about it.
CAROLINE: Fine, but I don’t have to have seen it to know this movie is exactly like all his other ones.
RYAN: You are correct. It’s fine, but it’s nothing great. The acting is good, especially from the little girl, and I loved the Madea scenes. Plus there’s some singing because of Mary J. Blige and I loved those moments. Other than that, it’s not worth it.
