Our Top 10 Movies of 2009
RYAN: It’s the first Monday of the new year and we can’t think of a better way to commemorate ’09 than with our list of favorite movies of the year.
Here are our top 5 each: 1) Sherlock Holmes 2) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 3) Nine 4) Jennifer’s Body 5) Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.
CAROLINE: For me it’s 1) Up in the Air 2) Precious 3) Julie & Julia 4) An Education 5) Crazy Heart. We haven’t even reviewed “Crazy Heart” yet, but I just saw it and we will soon!
RYAN: For the record, I also loved The Princess and the Frog, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, Michael Jackson’s This is It, and Avatar.
CAROLINE: I, of course, loved “Avatar” too just because it’s such an amazing technological achievement. Sure the story is a little lame and derivative, but what other movie this year made your jaw drop throughout?
RYAN: Absolutely. It set a new bar for movies for sure.
CAROLINE: I would also recommend “Adventureland” from earlier this year as a great rental. And just for fun, I’m going to name my worst movie of the year: “Year One.” What a total piece of freaking crap!
RYAN: [laughs’ I didn’t hate it as much as you, but it wasn’t great. My worst movie of ’09 is “The Fourth Kind.” It’s such a tragic, missed opportunity for a sci-fi flick.
CAROLINE: Two weeks and counting till the Golden Globes, people! 2009 certainly wasn’t the best year for movies, but there were some really good ones and I can’t wait to see how the awards season goes down.
RYAN: Happy 2010 to all! Go out and see some movies!
