Special Report: Weekend Box Office

RYAN: Well I don’t know if I’m happy or sad that we didn’t see it, but “Basic Instinct 2” tied for 10th place at the box office this weekend with a pathetic $3.2 million.
CAROLINE: That is outrageous!
RYAN: And painfully embarrassing.
CAROLINE: Painfully . Sharon Stone is a woman who is like, “I’m still so hot, even at 48. I can still make a fabulous movie about how hot I am.”
RYAN: But I have now lost all faith in marketing and promotion because no celeb has ever campaigned harder than this woman for this film.
CAROLINE: I know. She has been on every talk show.

RYAN: And obviously, we can gather that promotion is ultimately ineffective. I guess stars can stop promoting their movies… it stopped working.
CAROLINE: Is this a case where people actually listened to the critics?
RYAN: Perhaps so. And now Sharon Stone has got to want to kill herself.
CAROLINE: I would put her on a 24 hour suicide watch right now.
RYAN: OUCHsolutely.
CAROLINE: Has a major motion picture ever opened with that low a number?
RYAN: It’s just a shock. I still kinda wanna see it, just hoping it might hold a shred of entertainment value.
CAROLINE: Oh, I doubt that… We’ll see.
