16 BLOCKS

RYAN: We’re making a very rare appearance on the East side of Manhattan tonight.

CAROLINE: Yes, it’s quite unusual for us.

RYAN: At the AMC/Loews Kips Bay Theater, which is a great, clean, all stadium-seating theater.

CAROLINE: It’s a nice theater, but, OMG, who wants to haul over to 2nd Avenue?

RYAN: And though the movie opened number 2 at the Box Office this weekend, the theater was only about a third filled, would you say?

CAROLINE: Two fifths.

RYAN: (laughs) Exactly accurate. Ok. Wow. “16 Blocks.”

CAROLINE: A pleasant surprise.

RYAN: Who knew?

CAROLINE: A very exciting, edge of your seat, action/thriller.

RYAN: I do believe I turned to you at one point and was, like, “My adrenaline is pumpin’.”

CAROLINE: Oh, yeah. It is like awesome action. And there are some incredibly well-shot scenes. That first shooting incident, OMG! It was positively cinematic!

RYAN: And the lighting and the camera movement…

CAROLINE: Bruce Willis is back in his game.

RYAN: A little heavy in the lid – but the b*tch is back.

CAROLINE: He’s got such a good “cop” look. He’s totally believable as a paunchy, balding cop.

RYAN: Right.

CAROLINE: He has seen better days…

RYAN: Mos def.

CAROLINE: (snickers)

RYAN: Speaking of, I think Mos Def is really cute.

CAROLINE: Yes. Cute and good. He was also good in that mew-vie “The Woodsman,” I saw, which starred Kevin Bacon… and he was good in this.

RYAN: I saw that movie with you.

CAROLINE: Oh, that’s right.

RYAN: He was really good in this and his voice was funnily affected. You thought he was playing autistic.

CAROLINE: I thought he had a little “Rain Man” in him.

RYAN: No. I thought he was just a corny, kind of…

CAROLINE: He was a special “Rain Man” type.

R: Really…

CAROLINE: Just a touch.

RYAN: The movie’s a little long. I could have done without some of the sentimental moments that detract from the action. And there were a couple movie-magic moments where I was thinking, “Now in real life, they couldn’t have actually made it outta that building.”

CAROLINE: There were definitely a couple of those. But it’s a good chase action, slash, little bit of “Speed” thrown in there. I don’t mean the drug, I mean the movie.

RYAN: Say no to drugs.

CAROLINE: But this movie was good stuff, for a March release. Not too shabby.

RYAN: Yeah. Good. Nary a woman in the film.

CAROLINE: Well, there’s that one woman.

RYAN: Right, but practically speaking, she’s in it for only, like, 3.2 minutes.

CAROLINE: Yeah, it’s a guy film.

RYAN: A total guy film.

CAROLINE: And action packed.

RYAN: I didn’t expect it to be this enjoyable. And I do enjoy a night at the movies, let’s be honest.

CAROLINE: And Bruce’s paunch? Fake.

RYAN: Oh, that was fake?

CAROLINE: I’m thinking so. Oh, c’mon. He’s a slim guy.

RYAN: Really?

CAROLINE: It looked a little like a pillow, a moi.

RYAN: He looks so much like mon frere. I couldn’t tell it was fake. I thought he looked pregnant. Final thought?

CAROLINE: I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was an action/thriller. It’s up there with some of the really good action flicks. And I like to see Bruce back in the game. I had a good time. It did drag out a bit, at the end; but, overall, I liked the ending.

RYAN: Yes. Although the movie was long, the pace was very good during the action sequences. I was definitely kept at the edge of my seat during most of it. And David Morse is in it, who played Jodie Foster’s Papa in the movie “Contact.”

CAROLINE: He was very good.

RYAN: I think this is his largest film role to date.

CAROLINE: Big part.

RYAN: Overall, get out and see this. You will enjoy “16 Blocks.”
