DATE MOVIE

CAROLINE: This is a cliché, but there’s 90 minutes of my life I’ll never have back.
RYAN: Ouch. “Date Movie.” Spoof. Comedy. A la the “Scary Movie” series and I thought it moved relatively quickly. We like romantic comedies.
CAROLINE: I thought it was unwatchable. Unspeakably horrible.
RYAN: Really?
CAROLINE: I laughed at about three moments that were genuinely funny. But the entire movie was supposed to be funny. One was supposed to laugh, probably fifty or sixty times… and I laughed three. And the audience was not uproariously laughing either, I might add.

RYAN: No. But it did really well at the box office this weekend. Number 2, with $22.3 million.
CAROLINE: That’s stupid.
RYAN: Well… it was slim pickin’s this weekend. And people were better off seeing this over “Freedomland.”
CAROLINE: No. I’d see “Freedomland” sixteen times before I’d watch this again.
RYAN: Hell no! C’mon! This was not painful the way “Freedomland…”
CAROLINE: This was painful for me.
RYAN: “Date Movie” was half as long as “Freedomland.”
CAROLINE: I don’t care, it was horrible! There’s a reason I don’t see movies like this and I’ve just been reminded why.

RYAN: You know, look. This is one for the blog. If we were not doing WeSeeMovies.com, I wouldn’t have seen this film in the theater; but, I would have watched it on pay per view or when it hit cable. It was stupid-humor cute.
CAROLINE: (exhales)
RYAN: It’s over-the-top humor. I prefer wittier humor, but this is the spoofy kind of fluff.
CAROLINE: So many moments were just outright disgusting… it was way more than gross-out comedy…
RYAN: Yes. That’s not my kind of humor, but what I will say is what I did find funny was the pop cultural references. I thought that was funnier than the stuff that spoofed romantic comedies.
CAROLINE: Yeah.

RYAN: The spoofing was more nostalgic. Like… “Oh. I remember seeing ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ and ‘Meet the Fockers.’” But the actual pop culture stuff I found humorous. Ok. Final thoughts.
CAROLINE: This was the worst piece of sh** I’ve ever seen.
RYAN: Wow!! Ok. My final thought is if you’re into spoof humor, along the lines of “Scary Movie” and “Airplane,” you’ll dig this. It was cute. Otherwise skip it…
CAROLINE: I can’t believe Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge, two of the funniest people for the Christopher Guest comedy troupe deigned to be in this… Come on! I’m sure they didn’t realize it was gonna be this atrocious. I have spoken!

RYAN: I just think you know what you’re getting into when you go to see this and if you’re into that kind of schtick, you’ll like it. And if not… don’t see “The Pink Panther” either.

There was only a 0.5% chance I was going to see “Date Movie,” and you just reduced it to 0%. Thanks for saving me $11/90 minutes/500 calories for popcorn and a soda.
