FAST & FURIOUS
CAROLINE: We’re not sure why the world needs “Fast & Furious,” the fourth installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, but here it is. And I want to thank you for being gentlemanly enough to see it without me.
RYAN: I definitely took one for the team. I feel like you should pay me.
CAROLINE: [laughs’ Was it that bad?
RYAN: Well, I didn’t see the first three movies and I didn’t have any interest in seeing this one; but it wasn’t completely painful. The action scenes were cool, there just weren’t enough of them. It stars the original cast from the first movie, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriguez who I used to like on TV’s “Lost.” But Vin is the real star, which surprises me, because he’s not a very good actor. He’s not attractive and he has a speech impediment. I simply do not get it.
CAROLINE: He was a huge star for about five minutes several years ago, but now he’s lucky to get any roles. I’m sure he’s thrilled they decided to revisit this franchise.
RYAN: This movie had so many inside jokes based on the first three that I didn’t understand. There were people laughing and I asked our friend Cosmo why everyone was laughing, and he was like, “Oh, you had to see the first three.” So annoying!
CAROLINE: Let’s be honest, this is a niche movie for a niche audience. The people who are going out to see this are the ones who saw the first three. I don’t think anyone’s going to rush out to see this unless they’re fans of the franchise. I mean, the stars are C-list at best.
RYAN: I was glad to see Michelle Rodriguez again, but she’s only in the movie for a few minutes at the beginning. After that, the plot gets very silly and contrived. The script is laugh-out-loud bad and these actors can’t pull it off. Even Jordana Brewster is embarrassingly awful.
CAROLINE: I watched a couple of clips from the movie on the web, and I must say they were action-packed and exciting. So weren’t some of the stunts cool at least?
RYAN: Totally. The opening scene is amazing, almost like a “Die Hard” movie. I was actually reacting vocally during it. The rest of it is merely OK; just a lot of car racing. It just feels like you’re watching someone else play a video game.
— BOTTOM LINE —
RYAN: I’m supposing there’s a chance if you’re some cornball fan of the first films in this series that you may enjoy this one on some level; though it’s slower in comparison, from what I’ve heard others say. As far as this film goes on its own merits, it bored me. The plot is stupid and cliché. The action and effects aren’t enough to keep it going. I’m over it.
