JONAS BROTHERS – THE 3D CONCERT EXPERIENCE

CAROLINE: I’d like to thank you for taking one for the team, yet again. I know you don’t mind a children’s movie, but your willingness to attend the critics’ screening of “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” is another level of dedication.

RYAN: Thanks. And you know, I’m with you on this one. I never liked the Jonas Brothers. I don’t think they’re cute. All I’ve ever seen of them, like appearances on SNL, I’ve not liked the music or anything about them so I really loathed the idea of this movie.

CAROLINE: So how ultimately treacherous was it?

RYAN: That’s just the thing. I really liked it.

CAROLINE: What?!?!

RYAN: [laughs’ I know! It’s crazy. I feel crazy. But twenty minutes in, I had an epiphany. I was, like, “OMG. I get it.” And a couple minutes later I started to really like them – the music, their personalities, they began to look physically attractive.

CAROLINE: Hold on. Maybe they were pumping oxygen into the theater during your screening.

RYAN: Something happened. I can’t nor do I want to try to explain it.

CAROLINE: Well you’ve got to tell me about the film. How was the 3D?

RYAN: I still haven’t become desensitized to this new RealD 3D process. It’s freaking glorious and it’s incredible in the concert. It’s just that part of the movie that is in 3D. And this movie is only an hour and fifteen minutes, BTW.

CAROLINE: Oh that’s one for the parents out there.

RYAN: There were a ton of little girls there – even in my critic’s screening and at one point a little girl was reaching out so far toward the screen, trying to touch them in 3D, she almost fell into the row in front of us and her mom had to grab her back.

CAROLINE: [laughs’ That’s hilarious.

RYAN: There’s a bit of behind-the-scenes action, some of which spoofs The Beatles and the rest is cliche and totally scripted but the guys still pull it off as charming. It’s not as off-putting as, say, TV’s The Hills.

CAROLINE: I feel you. Are there any other celebs in it?

RYAN: I would have loved a backstage Kevin Costner “I thought it was neat” moment but all we get are some onstage duets with Disney sister stars Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift.

CAROLINE: Oh torture. I don’t like them either.

RYAN: I know. It sounds like a joke that any self-respecting adult would go to this movie unless at gunpoint by kids, but I’m telling you – it’s quite enjoyable.

CAROLINE: Eek ok.

RYAN: I have to be honest.

— BOTTOM LINE —

RYAN: I came home and looked at some of their music on iTunes – didn’t buy though. There’s nothing I can say or do to convince anyone of the merits of this film so I shouldn’t even try. The truth is, if I hadn’t gone for work, for free, I would never have seen this movie. But if for whatever reason you find yourself there, chances are you’ll dig it.
