2009 SAG Awards

CAROLINE: Here are the movie award winners for the SAG Awards 2009 last night:

Male Actor in a Leading Role
Sean Penn, Milk

Female Actor in a Leading Role
Meryl Streep, Doubt

Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight

Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Kate Winslet, The Reader

Cast in a Motion Picture
Slumdog Millionaire

RYAN: You know, I really love the SAG awards. They’re so freewheeling.

CAROLINE: I have a love-hate relationship with the SAGs, and last night was the usual self-congratulatory B.S. “I’m Victor Garber, and I’m an actor.” But it’s still fun to see everyone all dressed up. My personal highlight was watching Angelina be a major wench to the girl from E!

RYAN: Totally! And just before that the E! girl threw Kate Winslet under the bus for Miss Jolie. It was like, “Bigger star coming! Out of my way, Britty.”

CAROLINE: The show itself was pretty good, even though I don’t think the cast of “Slumdog Millionaire” should have won for Best Ensemble. I’m thrilled that Kate won for “The Reader.” Of course, she should have been nominated for Best Actress, not Best Supporting Actress. Or, as the SAGs like to call it, Female Actor in a Supporting Role. So pretentious.

RYAN: Ugh, I know. The whole “male actor”/”female actor” thing is so played out. Really? You can’t just say actor and actress like every other awards show?

CAROLINE: The SAGs are interesting though since the actors are winning awards from their peers; so one could say it’s more of a popularity contest than other shows.

RYAN: Such is the case with Meryl Streep, who clearly doesn’t need a career boost with the honor of yet another award.

CAROLINE: So true. But how great was it to see her get up and accept her award in pants and then acknowledge that she didn’t get a dress? She was so flummoxed, and the audience loved it. They all worship her.

RYAN: She was authentically shocked to win. I also love that Sean Penn won for “Milk.” He truly was outstanding.

CAROLINE: He was so deserving. By the by, what on God’s green earth was Katie Holmes doing there as a presenter?? She hasn’t been in a movie in a year. I guarantee you that her husband paid someone off – or made some sort of generous donation – to get her on the program.

RYAN: Her presence was definitely a surprise. Clearly she’s campaigning to get back into the movies. She’s looking hot doing it though.

CAROLINE: Well, the only big awards left are the Oscars! Here’s hoping Kate W. can pull it out.

RYAN: It’s gonna be a tight race between now and then – especially for Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn. I can’t wait!

Thanks For Viewing The 2009 SAG Awards
