BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA
RYAN: We’ve pretty much agreed at this point that you’re off the hook when it comes to seeing children’s movies. You detest them.
CAROLINE: Usually, yes. And you know I’d just be a Debbie Downer throughout the whole thing, so it’s better for you in the end too.
RYAN: That being said, I saw “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” and enjoyed much of it. It’s very cute and I think kids will love it. But it’s only so-so for adults.
CAROLINE: I can’t say I’m surprised, and I couldn’t be happier that you saw this movie without me. I heard Drew Barrymore does the voice of one of the characters though, I and like her.
RYAN: She’s the voice of the lead dog, and she’s fine but not that great. There were some lines where I was like, “Ooh, she said it like that?”
CAROLINE: Aren’t there a couple real people in the movie too?
RYAN: Yes, two actresses we enjoy – Jamie Lee Curtis is a gem and Piper Perabo is so gorgeous and cute that I want to be friends with her in real life. She has that Kate Hudson factor, where you either want to hang out with her or make out with her.
CAROLINE: This movie seems like “Legally Blonde: The Canine Version.”
RYAN: Well, the lead dog is a chihuahua and she did remind me of Bruiser Woods from “Legally Blonde” in many scenes. This movie’s like “if Bruiser could talk…”
CAROLINE: Exactly my point.
RYAN: The trailer mislead me a little though – I thought there was going to be a big musical number in the film like they showed in the trailer, but there’s nothing.
CAROLINE: Really? I remember seeing that scene in the ads. It’s not in the movie?
RYAN: Nope. They don’t even play it over the credits or anything. So this movie’s not a musical as I’d originally thought. Also there are other dog characters of different breeds. The film drags in some scenes and delved too much into sub-plots. I caught our mutual friend who I sat with at the screening looking at his watch three times during the movie.
CAROLINE: I can’t say I blame him. No adult should be seeing this movie unaccompanied by a child.
RYAN: By the by, they used the same special effects as in “Babe,” where you see the animals’ mouths talking, and that never tires for me. But it’s not nearly as well done as “Babe.” I own “Babe” on DVD, but I’m not planning on owning this one.
CAROLINE: What’s your bottom line?
RYAN: It’s a good movie for kids, but only OK for adults.
CAROLINE: I plan to live my life very happily never seeing this movie.

I saw the movie today and loved it!! The dogs were so cute and I love how real they looked when talking. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED NOT TO SEE THE MUSICAL SCENE IN THE MOVIE THAT WAS IN THE TRAILER. I realize that both Poppy and Chloe were in that scene, but it could have been in a ‘dream sequence’ OR put in at the end of the movie during the credits. Yes, I stayed to see if they would put it in somewhere!

I know! I totally stayed to see if it would be during the credits too. I don’t understand why they would produce such an elaborate production number and not use it. It may be on the dvd features…Thanks for reading us!!xx Ryan
