True Confession!
CAROLINE: Ryan, it hurts me to say this, but I’m not that excited to watch the Oscars this year.
RYAN: Gasp!
CAROLINE: I know.
RYAN: How dare you! Why oh why?
CAROLINE: I know – it offends me too. But there have already been several awards shows this year and I’m just so tired of the same four people winning in the acting categories. And you know the same four are going to win at the Oscars.
RYAN: Sadly, it’s true. It’s gonna be Forest Whitaker, Helen Mirren and a big old yawn.
CAROLINE: A double yawn for Jennifer Hudson. And Eddie Murphy. Whatever. The Oscars used to be the main event; but now the other shows are overshadowing them by predicting all the winners. It’s so tiresome. Like two years ago when we had to listen to Jamie Foxx give that rancid speech every time he won for “Ray.”
RYAN: You’re right. When we’ve seen the same actors win over and over, how original can they be in another acceptance speech?
CAROLINE: Jennifer Hudson will say, “I feel so blessed.”
RYAN: And “This is so good for my confidence.”
CAROLINE: Eddie Murphy will make an irrelevant joke. And Forest Whitaker will stammer and stutter his way into oblivion.
RYAN: I’m holding out for a hero of a hope that there will be some surprises this year. But let’s be honest, we do like to watch, because it’s so glamorous and exciting.
CAROLINE: The red carpet will be fabulous.
RYAN: You can count on us to be watching and reporting, come rain or shine.
CAROLINE: With Rice Krispies Treats.
