New on DVD
CAROLINE: Try to contain your excitement – “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” is new on DVD today!
RYAN: I cannot put my joy into words. Please note sarcasm.
CAROLINE: This is definitely for the 25 and under dude set. It had a couple of laughs, I must admit; but mostly I was irritated by it.
RYAN: I found it painful to watch. Definitely one of the worst movie-going experiences I’ve had this year.
CAROLINE: In addition to audio commentary from the stars and the directors, the DVD has a cool feature that lets you choose alternate directions for the movie to go in. They actually filmed totally different scenes just for the DVD that lets viewers change the way the movie goes – kinda like those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books.
RYAN: That’s pretty cool. I just wish that feature was for a DVD I actually cared about.
CAROLINE: Another movie we weren’t huge fans of, “Shine a Light,” is out on DVD today as well.
RYAN: It wasn’t so much that we hated the movie, we’re just not huge Rolling Stones fans. So to watch a 2-hour concert movie from them just isn’t my cup of tea, whether it’s directed by Martin Scorsese or not.
CAROLINE: I couldn’t agree more. This one is strictly for fans of the band; otherwise you’ll be bored to tears. I sure was. Though I did like the first few minutes of the movie where they showed Marty trying to figure out all the logistics of shooting the concert.
RYAN: I would have much preferred the movie if there were more of that behind-the-scenes stuff. I wanted it to more like Madonna’s “Truth or Dare,” but it wasn’t.
CAROLINE: Suffice it to say you’ll like this movie only if you’re a true Stones fan.
