New on DVD
RYAN: One of last year’s most visually stunning movies is out on DVD today. We saw “Beowulf” in 3-D IMAX and it was really amazing.
CAROLINE: I don’t know that this will translate to DVD really well though. If you rent it, you better watch it on a big-ass TV to get the full effect.
RYAN: Totally. The DVD has a bunch of additional scenes and featurettes on how the movie was made. It’s a really cool technology.
CAROLINE: I still don’t think I fully understand it. Each animated character is based on its real-life actor, and they do some kind of motion capture to get the expressions and everything. Then in the movie they look animated, but still very real. Other than the guy who plays Beowulf, who’s actually very chunky in real life.
RYAN: As evidenced in the movie “Fool’s Gold.”
CAROLINE: Also out on DVD today is a movie you couldn’t pay me to see, “The Darjeeling Limited” by Wes Anderson. I’ve decided I’m over him as a director.
RYAN: Yeah, his movies don’t do a whole lot for me either.
CAROLINE: I’ve seen most of his other ones, but I just couldn’t drag myself to this one. Though I did hear that the short film that preceded this movie, “Hotel Chevalier,” was really good.
RYAN: The DVD has deleted scenes and not much else in the way of extras.
CAROLINE: Rent it at your own discretion, or if you’re a big Wes Anderson fan.
