STEP UP 2 THE STREETS

RYAN: Sitting through “Step Up 2 The Streets” will likely go down as one of the most painful movie-going experiences of 2008.

CAROLINE: Did this movie even pretend to be a sequel to “Step Up,” aside from the fact that Channing Tatum appears in the first five minutes?

RYAN: Yes, it is a sequel.

CAROLINE: But it has absolutely nothing to do with the first film.

RYAN: Well, hello “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.” Same thing.

CAROLINE: I think they should have at least given it a different name. Maybe “Formulaic Dance Movie That You’ve Seen A Hundred Times Before.”

RYAN: Before there were TV shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dance Wars,” this movie might have had a different impact. But we see great dancing on TV all the time now, so this film isn’t that impressive, especially when you’re forced to watch a movie with a terrible script, a horrendous story and awful actors. Just give me a reality dance TV show.

CAROLINE: This movie is like one long dance video interspersed with scenes of amateurish acting that are laughably bad.

RYAN: The guy who plays the school’s dance director is appallingly bad. And the lead girl, as you pointed out to me during the film, sounds just like Demi Moore. But not in a way that impressed me.

CAROLINE: I think that’s the sole reason she was cast. She has a sexy voice, but she’s not super hot. She can dance though. All the dance scenes are pretty good, but I’ve seen better.

RYAN: And her love interest, the blond guy, is cute, but he smiles too much.

CAROLINE: He looks like Anthony Michael Hall’s cuter brother. But he’s way too old to play a high school student.

RYAN: He looks like he’s the same age as his brother who’s the director of the school. It’s ridonk. Bottom line?

CAROLINE: I always love a dance movie, but the dancing in this one isn’t even good enough to excite me. I remember liking “Step Up,” so I was thinking and hoping that I’d like the sequel. But it’s just like all the other dance movies you’ve seen already, and you know exactly what’s gonna happen in the end.

RYAN: Some of the kids in the audience at our screening were liking it and cheering, but I think that’s because they were seeing it for free.

CAROLINE: I’m sure they were just cheering at the dancing and not the actual quality of the movie.

RYAN: Please take our advice and skip this movie.
