LIVE BLOG: 2008 Golden Globe Winners

RYAN: And now… the shortest awards show in history.

CAROLINE: I know! It’ll be over before it begins.

RYAN: In the most anticlimactic way possible, the Golden Globe winners are to be announced by the hosts of Access Hollywood, of all people.

CAROLINE: And the Golden Globes go to…

Best Supporting Actress:
Cate Blanchett, I’m Not There
RYAN: Well, big surprise.

CAROLINE: I know. She’s such a winner that Cate.

RYAN: I’ve been known to call her Cate “Can Do No Wrong” Blanchett, but I was pulling more for Amy Ryan of “Gone Baby Gone” for this one.

CAROLINE: She was brizilliant in that film. But whatever. We love Cate!

Best Animated Movie:
Ratatouille

RYAN: All right. I’m down.

CAROLINE: I could care less about this category. Having said that, this was the one cartoon movie I could stand to see last year – and I actually enjoyed it.

RYAN: It wasn’t bad, but I would have preferred it if it had been a musical.

Best Actress Comedy or Musical:
Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose

RYAN: Ok. This one they nailed!

CAROLINE: She was phenomenal in this movie. I’m so glad she won! I thought for sure it would be Ellen Page.

RYAN: This was the first foreign film I ever saw twice in the theater… and then bought the DVD. It’s an amazing movie and she gave the performance of a lifetime. Though I also loved Amy Adams in “Enchanted,” Marion is the most deserving.

Best Supporting Actor:
Javier Bardem, No Country For Old Men

RYAN: If the Hollywood Foreign Press is going to continue giving the statues to the people I most think deserve it, at this rate, I’ll let them cancel the awards every year.

CAROLINE: This movie was so so good. Go J.B.!

RYAN: He scared us in this flick!

CAROLINE: At this point can I just say how irritated I am by the useless commentary and reaction from the hosts of TV’s Access Hollywood!? They’re trying to be funny and it’s so not working.

RYAN: Seriously. They call this a press conference? Just give us the winners, dagnabit!

CAROLINE: Shut the eff up and read the winners already.

Best Director:
Julian Schnabel, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

RYAN: What the?

CAROLINE: Decent movie. Random win.

RYAN: About this time we’d normally be seeing some drunk actress trip up the stage.

Best Actor Comedy or Musical:
Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd

CAROLINE: I loved this movie! I saw it twice in the theater.

RYAN: Me too! Go win for a musical! Though Johnny totally didn’t really sing in this.

CAROLINE: He’s a consistenly brilliant actor though.

RYAN: He’s lucky he wasn’t up against Daniel Day-Lewis for this award is all I’m saying.

Best Motion Picture Comedy:
Sweeney Todd

RYAN: I am so vindicated as a gay man!

CAROLINE: We do enjoy a great movie musical and this one hit all the right notes – pun intended.

RYAN: Tim Burton must be thrilled.

CAROLINE: Honey, I’m thrilled.

RYAN: Me too.

CAROLINE: It’s almost a sweep for the “Todd” film, except for Best Director and that Bonham Carter gal.

RYAN: She was better in the movie that Johnny, but Marion Cotillard was still stronger than Helena.

Best Dramatic Actress:
Julie Christie, Away From Her

RYAN: Who?

CAROLINE: Did you see this movie?

RYAN: Um, no. I think we both agreed we couldn’t be bothered.

CAROLINE: I actually did see it on DVD and figured she’d win. But it’s more of a mercy win because everyone loved her in her hey-day.

RYAN: All I know is this movie was directed by former Disney Channel child star Sarah Polley. Random.

Best Dramatic Actor:
Daniel Day Lewis, There Will Be Blood

CAROLINE: You must be thrilled!

RYAN: I am! I wanted him to win. I love this movie and I love him in it!

CAROLINE: I have to admit, even though it’s a total boy’s movie, DDL was great in this movie.

RYAN: He’s one of my favorite actors.

Best Motion Picture Drama:
Atonement

CAROLINE: Yay!

RYAN
: There you go.

CAROLINE: My favorite movie of the year won Best Picture!

RYAN: Congratulations, Caroline.

CAROLINE: I know. I feel like I just won something.

RYAN: Oh, look. They actually finished on time.
