NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS
CAROLINE: I just couldn’t manage to lift my Nicolas Cage ban and force myself to see “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” but you did and evidently enjoyed it very much.
RYAN: As the saying goes honey, it’s your loss. As far as sequels go, this one stands out as equal to, if not better than, the original. And I loved the first one, so that’s saying a lot. It should be noted the same director returned – Jon Turteltaub.
CAROLINE: I was never inspired to see either of these films even without the annoying-Nicolas-Cage factor. It’s Disney. It’s got random presidential references and it just seems like it’s for kids what with it’s PG rating and all.
RYAN: Well, everyone will enjoy this movie, and Nicolas Cage isn’t doing his annoying shtick at all. His character is great, and I loved the supporting cast: Ed Harris, Helen Mirren fresh off her Oscar win, Jon Voight and this really cute nerdy guy, Justin Bartha.
CAROLINE: Oh, I know him. He was in that Matthew McConaughey/SJP movie, “Failure to Launch.”
RYAN: He used to be a producer at Showtime, just like me, so maybe in a few years I’ll be starring in a movie with Nicolas Cage.
CAROLINE: It’s nice to have big dreams. So isn’t this movie about Abe Lincoln or something?
RYAN: It involves some fascinating American history but in a fictional, fantastical way. And the retelling of Lincoln’s assassination was brilliant. Overall this is a fantastic, suspenseful action movie. It is the definitive “edge of your seat” type of movie. Watching it is like a workout; it’s so exciting that my adrenaline was pumping the whole time.
CAROLINE: Please tell me that Nicolas doesn’t do that smarmy voice that he sometimes has.
RYAN: Not at all. It’s a very refreshing performance from him. It really reminds me of the Indiana Jones movies, or “Tomb Raider.”
CAROLINE: So what’s your bottom line? Is this a good movie for the holidays?
RYAN: Absolutely. I’d recommend it 100% to people of all ages, and it’s definitely something to see on the big screen.
CAROLINE: I’ll keep it in mind but I honestly don’t think I could even handle it on the small screen. Thanks for going without me.
