LARS AND THE REAL GIRL

RYAN: I’m so sad that I haven’t yet seen “Lars and the Real Girl” but you did, and I have one question for you: During the movie, at any time, did you close your eyes and pretend you were Rachel McAdams in “The Notebook” and fantasize about making out with Ryan Gosling?

CAROLINE: You should see this movie and then reconsider that question. He is so awkward and weird in it, and he has that ‘70s moustache, so no, I was never compelled to daydream. But I did make it a priority to go see “Lars” this weekend because of our mutual love of Ryan Gosling, as well as the fact that the movie has a really interesting premise.

RYAN: It also has the hot guy from “The Assassination of Jesse James,” Paul Schneider.

CAROLINE: I didn’t know that going in!! I was so excited to see him on the screen. And Emily Mortimer’s in it too. She’s always great, though her American accent was questionable at times.

RYAN: So did the story get tired or did it actually sustain itself for the entire movie?

CAROLINE: God no, it didn’t get tired; it’s such a unique premise and clearly that’s why this movie is getting so much buzz. Basically, Ryan Gosling falls for a silicone sex doll and acts as if she’s his real girlfriend. And the rest of the movie is how his family and friends react to it.

RYAN: I’m dying to know if he consummates the relationship with her, but don’t tell me.

CAROLINE: My lips are sealed. It’s an interesting movie in the sense that you’re like, “How in the world did someone come up with the idea for this?” It’s so out there.

RYAN: Do you think Ryan Gosling is going to get an Oscar nod?

CAROLINE: Doubtful. It’s such a small movie, and it’s not like it’s some great movie for the ages.

RYAN: But he got nominated for a small movie last year.

CAROLINE: That’s true. But I doubt that would happen two years in a row. “Lars” is a cute, small movie and it’s funny at times, but funny in a way that it’s pitiful rather than actually funny.

RYAN: What’s your bottom line? Do you recommend this film?

CAROLINE: I do, though you may only get a chance to see it if you live in a large city. It’s amusing and unique but it’s also small and indie-ish, so you can definitely wait for it on DVD.

Thanks For Viewing The LARS AND THE REAL GIRL
