Lucky Them Review

Lucky Them PosterRYAN: We first fell in love with Toni Collette in Muriel’s Wedding and she’s had one of the best career’s in Hollywood since then.  She’s just always fabulous and she can do comedy, drama, shake it all up like we’ve seen her do on Showtime’s United States of Tara, but for all I’ve enjoyed her in, she gives one of her career’s best performances in Lucky Them.

CAROLINE: She really is so good.  I haven’t had the chance to see this yet.  She plays a writer?

RYAN: She’s a music critic for a Rolling Stone-type of mag and the movie does have a bit of a loose, Almost Famous vibe to it because of that but I actually connected a lot more to this film than to that one.  This is a great dramedy that has one of the best hidden treasures near the last act.

CAROLINE: That’s a nice surprise.  I’m sure I don’t know what you’re hinting at.  No spoilers, of course, but is it a twist?

RYAN: Not a twist but just a brilliantly cinematic moment that punches the whole movie up.  It’s a great, fun watch to begin with but there’s that moment at the end that will make you freak in a good way.

CAROLINE: Oh I love that.  You’re really tempting me to see it right now.

RYAN: It’s an interesting script because you feel like you’re sort of walking in on someone’s life, mid-expereice.  And it’s very real, and very natural and there is drama and a lot on the line for Toni’s character.  Plus she plays a single woman and I kinda loved her relationship subplots, sex’pecially those involving Ryan Eggold, to whom invoked the same response on screen, recently, as Theo James in Divergent. So hot!

CAROLINE: Oh honey, that’s saying something.  Toni looks gorge in this too, from what I’ve seen in the trailer.

RYAN: She really is beautiful i this and I love her costumes – they’re edgy, contemporary, a wee bit hipster, and I feel like everyone I know would wear what she does in this film.  She and Ryan have amazing chemistry.  And I like how she and Thomas Hayden Church played off one another too.  He has a quirky, awkward, yet endearing role.

CAROLINE: How’s Oliver Platt?

RYAN: Terrific, per usual.  I love him because he voices Wiser the Owl in Legends of Oz, and he’s also in Chef, so he’s in three movies currently in theaters.  He’s a hardworking man and I like it.  There’s a bit of mystery plot to this film which I enjoyed because the characters are not your average sleuths.

CAROLINE: How’s the music?

RYAN: The soundtrack is great and really has to be because it’s a movie involving music.

CAROLINE: Very cool.

RYAN: If you love a good indie, the music biz, reading Rolling Stone, and the like; of if you’re a big Toni fan like me, you’ll want to check this one out!

I am a huge fan of Toni Collette. I will see this, if for no other reason, than she is in it.
