That Awkward Moment Review
RYAN: This movie strikes out as it’s own genre – it’s a Bromantic Comedy.
CAROLINE: Good one. I like that. I wonder if it will become a new thing.
RYAN: The bromance has been the focus of many comedies in recent years but the age old dilemma of some movie makers has been how to get dudes into the theater for a rom com. Last year’s Don Jon certainly broke the mold and had that appeal and now I think this one has as well. That Awkward Moment is a cleverly disguised chick flick.
CAROLINE: Ha. Well I’m not going to complain. I love a good rom com.
RYAN: This one is very good. I complain when a rom com is formulaic and stale as most are. I love a refreshing take and this one really stands out, even though it both pays homage to and pokes fun at previous filmic romantic comedies.
CAROLINE: How so?
RYAN: I won’t do any spoilers but you’ll like it; I know it. This movie is like Sex and the City for guys, but really for girls. It focuses on the friendship between, and more importantly, love lives, of three guys living in NYC.
CAROLINE: You know how much I love SATC. I like the sound of that.
RYAN: It’s so much better than I expected it to be. It’s R-rated so they’re allowed to drop the F bombs and cross the line a bit and I actually LOL’d a few times, as did the whole audience I screened with so the comedy works.
CAROLINE: How’s the Z’Efron?
RYAN: He’s good. He’s so cute, isn’t he? And he and Miles Teller both give side-butt in the movie in a funny scene.
CAROLINE: What about the blue dot I’ve seen on the TV spots. Does Michael B. Jordan go full frontal in this?
RYAN: No it’s just a tease. There’s no frontal. The cast is great. All the guys are and their different relationships are cool to watch unfold.
CAROLINE: What about the chicks in the film?
RYAN: They’re good too but the stand out is British actress Imogen Poots who does a great Ameraccent but she’s a quirky kind of likable… like another version of Emma Stone.
CAROLINE: Oh. That’s interesting.
RYAN: We’ll see how it breaks down in audience attendance – it is being marketed a bit more as a comedy for the bros, but I still think it will appeal mostly to the girls out there. It’s the perfect date movie and just in time to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day.

Hi Ryan ~
We saw That Awkward Moment based on your reviews. Whatta funny, very likeable movie! Laughed outloud way too many times. Laughed so hard at the party dress-up boo-boo and the attendees’ reactions there were tears running down my face. This was a great movie to see ~ we laugh every time we talk about it. Besides all the comedy, it really did have a good story-line. We were surprised how few people were in the audience especially since it was $5 Tuesday. Highly recommend seeing this movie.
