Last Vegas Review

LAST-VEGAS-PosterRYAN: This is the new comedy starring four Hollywood A-listers past their prime but certainly working all of their charms which this movie milks entirely.  Pre-judging it, I was calling it The Hangover for old people and that’s exactly what it is only better.  The Hangover movies were all so raunchy and cheesy.

ERIN: I was just thinking the same thing.  The Hangover movies are all so tasteless and they take cheap shots wheres as Last Vegas is so tasteful and the jokes are smart and quick and funny that I enjoyed it so much more than The Hangover series.

RYAN: This is actually both a great comedy and romantic comedy. There’s also some good sentimentality to it, not only because of the actors’ age, but also with the story about friendship.

ERIN: It was really well done.  I didn’t come in with any preconceived notions and was really surprised.  I laughed out loud a couple of times which is rare for me because I think I have a quirky sense of humor.

RYAN: You have a good one.  I LOL’s a couple times too.  There’s great physicality in addition to the written humor.  I really loved the dance break that Morgan Freeman has in this film.  I welcome dance anytime.  And the beginning of the movie reminded me of Beaches because it starts out with them all young and it has that quality to it.

ERIN: Oh yeah.

RYAN: There are four guys who have been friends for 60 years and it’s a nice opening.  Before we talk about the guys – how amazing does Mary Steenburgen look?! Clearly she’s had work done but it’s good.

ERIN: It’s very good.  And she was amazing and that’s actually her singing.  You can totally tell that’s her voice.

RYAN: She’s not the best singer but it’s fitting for the role and I love it because it’s justified movie musical moments.  She’s fabulous in this movie and just looks incredible.  One of the songs she actually wrote.

ERIN: She looks great; they dressed her well and her body is amazing.

RYAN: Having her really balances out the whole dude-aspect of the movie.  Younger folks might not be into this movie but…

ERIN: Probably mid-20s and older.I doubt teenagers would be into it.

RYAN: Michael Douglas is great. I loved his fake bake in the movie.  He’s so orange and they make fun of his hair color.  Each character is really carved out into his own niche of guy.  They’re all past the midlife crisis stage of life.

ERIN: But each has his own issue and it’s cute to see how their stories resolve.  Michael’s fake teeth really bothered me.

RYAN: It’s all part of his look for the character though.  Robert DeNiro and Kevin Kline are both great and funny and give you what they do best.

ERIN: I think lots of people will be able to relate to it even if they’re not the age of grandparents.

RYAN: Oh – Roger Bart as a Madonna impersonator was a scene stealer.

ERIN: It was beautiful I love him.  That was a magical moment.  He does everything so well.  He’s so devoted, it was perfect.

RYAN: Vegas looks really good.  I’m not a hug fan of the city but it’s gorge and the costumes at their party scene really inspires a very Rat Pack moment.

ERIN: They each had on a different colored suit and looks great.

RYAN: It’s light and funny and sweet.  It won’t get any awards love this season but it’s not that type of film.  For what it is, if you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy right now, it’s a feel good choice.
