Stardust Review

RYAN: “Stardust” is easily one of my favorite films of all time.

CAROLINE: This is the best fantasy/fairy tale movie I’ve seen since “The Princess Bride.” And that’s saying something because “The Princess Bride” is one of my all-time faves. I’m just worried that not enough people know about “Stardust” – the world must know how good it is! It totally caught me off guard because I wasn’t expecting much from it.

RYAN: I feel so validated because this movie turned out to be as good as I wanted it to be. It has all of the elements of a film I could love: pirates, bucketfuls of magic, witches and a great cast. It delivers on every angle.

CAROLINE: We first saw the “Stardust” trailer a few months ago, and I remember being excited about it – though probably not as excited as you, Ryan – but as the release date for it got closer, I was kind of like, “Eh, it’s coming out in the middle of August. How good can it be?” But seriously, it was fantastic.

RYAN: The script is wonderful. The acting is incredible. And the sets, costumes and make-up all deserve Academy Awards.

CAROLINE: This film is epic. It’s a full-scale fantasy and it has all the elements you would hope for. I loved the music too. Interestingly, the only other big film this director, Matthew Vaughn, has done before is “Layer Cake,” an indie action flick from 2004. He also produced some of Guy Ritchie’s movies. But I digress.

RYAN: Let’s break the cast down: Michelle Pfeiffer as an evil witch was so sinister and good. The way she moves was amazing, and her costumes were kind of like Madonna’s “Frozen” video.

CAROLINE: She’s incredible in this movie but unfortunately, it seems that she attended the Anne Hathaway School for British Accents. As in, she barely bothers to do one. But we’ll let it slide because she’s fabulous in every other way.

RYAN: Claire Danes won me over in this movie like she never has before. I’ve never cared that much about her, but after this movie she may have just become one of my favorite actresses. And Bobby De Niro – hell-oo! This has to be the favorite role I’ve seen him in.

CAROLINE: He’s hilarious in this movie; his role is so fun and unexpected. There are also some smaller roles played by actors we love like Rupert Everett, Ricky Gervais and Sienna Miller.

RYAN: Whoever the lead boy is who plays Tristan – he’s amazing.

CAROLINE: He’s a Brit named Charlie Cox, and the only other big thing he’s done is “Casanova,” that Heath Ledger movie from 2005 that no one saw except for us.

RYAN: I wish I could have played Tristan in this movie. It’s an adventure the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time. I’d even be so bold to put this film in a league with “The Wizard of Oz” and “Harry Potter.”

CAROLINE: That was evident from the words you uttered to me about 20 minutes into the film. What were they again?

RYAN: “I just pre-ordered this on DVD in my heart.”

CAROLINE: (laughs) If that’s not a true fan speaking, then I don’t know what.

RYAN: Bottom line?

CAROLINE: “Stardust” is amazing, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a little bit of imagination, young and old, men and women alike. This movie shocked me at how good it is. I couldn’t believe how much I was enjoying it. Matthew Vaughn has made one of the best movies of the year.

RYAN: It’s absolutely exquisite!!! One of the best movies in many years. I’m just so happy that I lived in a time when this movie was made and I got to see it.

SEE IT
