PARIS, JE T’AIME

CAROLINE: I had heard from at least three people that this movie was really good, so I decided to see it by myself. And I’m so glad I did! It’s “Paris, je t’aime” and I loved it.

RYAN: I’m dying to see it myself. Why did you love it?

CAROLINE: Because it’s so cute. And don’t be fooled by the title – there are some parts that are in English. It’s a bilingual film. It’s comprised of roughly sixteen vignettes that are 4-12 minutes in length. And almost all of them are great.

RYAN: So it’s not a film, but rather a collection of short films?

CAROLINE: Exactly. And some of them are directed by people you know, such as the Coen brothers, Alfonso Cuaron, Wes Craven and Alexander Payne.

RYAN: Wow! Alfonso Cuaron did the third Harry Potter film, of which I’m so fond.

CAROLINE: He’s done a lot of other things too, like “Children of Men.”

RYAN: So were all the vignettes like little love letters to Paris?

CAROLINE: Kind of, yeah. Some are serious, and one is kind of whimsical. A lot are love stories and one is very sad. There were only two that I wasn’t that into – the rest, I loved. And I might add, there are a lot of celebrities in this movie that you wouldn’t expect.

RYAN: Like who?

CAROLINE: Well, I don’t know if I want to ruin it for you because half the fun for me was watching it and thinking, “Oh my God, I didn’t know she was in this movie!”

RYAN: Well, at least give me one!

CAROLINE: Ok, well the one thing you could figure out for yourself is that Steve Buscemi is in the Coen brothers’ one.

RYAN: Yeah, well he’s in every movie they make.

CAROLINE: No big shock there. But there are two young actresses who both of us really like who are in the movie. And one old fart named Nick Nolte who looks like hell on a plate.

RYAN: Ugh.

CAROLINE: But other than that, I’m gonna leave you in suspense.

RYAN: Ok, I can live with that. Overall, is the movie too long?

CAROLINE: Not at all. It’s under two hours and the second to last vignette is by Alexander Payne and it’s hilarious.

RYAN: Good to know. Bottom line?

CAROLINE: I’m not sure if this movie is playing everywhere – it might only be the big cities. But if it’s playing in your city, go see it! It’s wonderful.

RYAN: I think I’m gonna have to go see it this weekend.

CAROLINE: You won’t be disappointed.

Thanks For Viewing The PARIS, JE T’AIME
