SPIDER-MAN 3

RYAN: Thank you Sony for inviting us to the advanced screening of “Spider-Man 3.”

CAROLINE: Sadly, I could not attend, but seeing it is first on my list of things to do this weekend. So I’m dying to know – how was it?!

RYAN: It was great! At the end of the day, it was as entertaining as any of the previous Spider-Man movies. Really colorful and sinister and action-packed. And the effects just get better and better with every movie.

CAROLINE: I love that scene from the trailer where Tobey Maguire is falling through the air and the engagement ring he has for Kirsten Dunst is flying out of his hands. So cool.

RYAN: The effects in this movie are taken to a whole new level. All the performances are great, and I really loved Bryce Dallas Howard. She has a small role, but she’s great.

CAROLINE: Hmm. She was supposed to suck.

RYAN: I don’t know where you read that because she was really good. Thomas Haden Church gave a really intense performance, and Topher Grace was an excellent villain too.

CAROLINE: Yeah, I read that he loves playing bad guys now and doesn’t want to go back to playing good guys.

RYAN: And it’s nice to see Tobey Maguire when he’s in shape because we all know that as soon as he stops filming these movies, he gains some serious lbs.

CAROLINE: He tends to get flabby and double-chinnish. But let’s not hold it against him. So what’s your bottom line?

RYAN: A lot buzz has been that this Spider-Man is the best of the three. I don’t know if I’d say that, but it’s definitely as good as the other two. It’s a little too long though.

CAROLINE: Yes, that’s my only concern. But I’m totally psyched to see it. I won’t ask you about Kirsten Dunst so we can talk about her after I’ve seen it.

RYAN: There are a couple of moments in the film that are a little discombobulated, where they don’t explain the plot that well. But the movie is ambitious and it covers a lot of ground, so that’s bound to happen.

CAROLINE: I’m sure I’ll be confused.

RYAN: You’re gonna love it. And we’ll update this review once you can weigh in on it.

CAROLINE: I have finally seen “Spider-Man 3”!

RYAN: And?

CAROLINE: I liked it. The special effects were truly amazing. You didn’t tell me how cool the Sandman effects were!

RYAN: Stop the presses. We can’t discuss anything till we talk about Kirsten Dunst’s singing. The film opened with her singing in a Broadway show, and I almost died.

CAROLINE: Well, her dress was beautiful. That’s what I have to say about her voice.

RYAN: I was glad to learn that she did her own singing, and at least the character MJ gets fired for her bad reviews because no one would ever cast her in a Broadway musical with that voice.

CAROLINE: I don’t think I was quite as appalled by her singing as you were. What truly astounded me was Tobey Maguire’s ghastly dancing in multiple scenes. I almost felt like the the director was playing a cruel joke on him.

RYAN: The dancing scene with him and Bryce Dallas Howard was my favorite part of the movie.

CAROLINE: I can’t say the same. Why did Bryce have to have that hideous bleached hair?

RYAN: I’m assuming it’s because Gwen is a blond in the comic books, as MJ is a redhead.

CAROLINE: Well, the color did not suit poor Bryce at all. For me, this movie was all about the effects. I am not a Spider-Man fan so I didn’t really give a crap about any of these characters, though I was pleased with how the love story turned out. Mainly, I just loved the action scenes.

RYAN: I think it’s a good third installment, but it could have easily lost forty minutes.

CAROLINE: Yes, I was starting to squirm by the time it ended. There were definitely some filler scenes that could have been cut. And is it me or does James Franco have a goofy, toothy smile?

RYAN: I’m sure I didn’t notice.

CAROLINE: I felt like he was a big dork in this movie. But he’s pretty hot. And speaking of hot, how cute did Topher Grace look? He made me swoon.

RYAN: He was ok. He has great hair, but otherwise didn’t do it for me.

CAROLINE: Well, at the end of the day, they got what they wanted with this film.

RYAN: Lots of money?

CAROLINE: Well, yes, but that’s not what I was going to say. I just meant that the special effects and action sequences are truly a sight to behold. Even just seeing Spider-Man swing through New York City on his web was so cool and so real-looking.

RYAN: That scene where Bryce is falling out of the building is amazing too.

CAROLINE: Totally. It’s worth seeing for the effects even if you’re not a Spidey fan.

Thanks For Viewing The SPIDER-MAN 3
