Olympus Has Fallen Review

RYAN: I wasn’t too jazzed going in to see this film, aside from the fact that I enjoy some of the stars, primarily one Aaron Eckhart, who is truly an underrated actor. 

CAROLINE:How was he in this?

RYAN: He’s great. But it’s not his movie as much as it’s Gerard Butler’s.  Gerry plays the secret service detail to Aaron’s president.

CAROLINE: Ah. How’s the action?

RYAN: Amazing.  Really.  It’s one of the more exciting movies recently.  It’s actually, like, a heart-pumping good flick.  It’s pretty bloody though.

CAROLINE: Well it is about a terrorist attack.

RYAN: True and it’s gruesome.  Lots of gunfire and explosions and bodies being strewn about.  It’s kind of gross sometimes, like a full-on war film, but not.

CAROLINE: That’s good. I know you’re not a big fan of war movies.

RYAN: Indeed not.  This is kinda scary in the sense that what happens in this movie could conceivably, to some extent actually happen, you know?

CAROLINE: That would be heinous and out of control.

RYAN: Nuclear war threats, our government in peril, it’s crazy to think about but this movie does a great job at keeping the focus on the action which really is well done.

CAROLINE: And there are some other great people in the cast too… Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett…

RYAN: Dylan McDermott, Melissa Leo, Ashley Judd.  It’s a fantastic cast that actually adds quite a bit of good weight to the film.

CAROLINE: I was mildly intrigued by the trailer.  Glad to know you think it delivered.

RYAN: I was very much into it the whole time.  Except for one element, actually, which shook me out of it, it’s a strong film.

CAROLINE: What was the element.

RYAN: Inappropriately, there are random comedic lines thrown in to lighten the mood but they really are ill-timed and poorly written.  That whole notion of lightening the mood was a total fail for this film.

CAROLINE: Oh that’s awful.

RYAN: They should have just let the intensity continue to build and play out.  But regardless, this is a very enjoyable time for a straightforward, action-packed, terrorist attack film where you can guess how things turn out.
