2013 Golden Globes Live Review
RYAN: It’s here and it’s one of the greatest nights of the year for us!
8:19pm
RYAN: Wait this is new… Mr. Golden Globe? Have we ever seen a son up there before? And could little Michael J. Fox look any more nervous? He’s so uncomfortable.
CAROLINE: Yeah it’s awkward. I don’t remember a son before. It’s usually just daughters.
8:40pm
RYAN: What’s with the production this year? Clearly the prompter isn’t working and the audio mix is wonky.
CAROLINE: Yeah it seems a bit off kilter this evening. Hopefully it will even out shortly.
RYAN: And here we are once again, sifting through the TV categories, waiting for the good stuff…
8:42
RYAN: My cousin Leah’s here enjoying the show too…
LEAH: Could this guy introducing Argo be standing any further away from the microphone?
8:45
RYAN: And the award for best score… Life of Pi.
LEAH: Well I didn’t see that movie but thanks to J.Lo for letting us know what the hell movie he worked on.
RYAN: This is a fun one… Best Original Song – Skyfall – Adelle.
LEAH: I’m happy for Adelle but I’m even happier that Jon Bon Jovi was nominated.
CAROLINE: Ok, Adelle, keep it together.
8:58
RYAN: Hello Bill Clinton!
LEAH: Oh he’s introducing Lincoln.
RYAN: He looks good.
LEAH: It’s a good choice for the introduction but I hope he is also tending to Hillary.
9:02pm
RYAN: OMG here we go… best actress musical or comedy!
LEAH: [laughs’ Loving the improv with Will and Kristen.
RYAN: That was genius. I would let them present every category!
CAROLINE: Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook!
RYAN: I am so friggin’ happy about this!! I want her to win the Oscar!! She looks great in red, girl on fire. I love her dress. It’s a very Grace Kelly moment and you can tell she has a great personality.
CAROLINE: Jessica Chastain will win later tonight in the drama category. So it’s really between these two for the Oscar.
9:15pm
LEAH: Anne Hathaway wins for Les Misérables, of course.
RYAN: It’s a sweep. This is her moment.
CAROLINE: Let’s not make more of it than it is, Annie. You’re not the only winner tonight.
RYAN: But c’mon. It’s is just one of the most amazing performances of the decade. And I love how she just honored Sally Field.
LEAH: Why does Helena Bonham Carter always look like she has bugs in her hair?
RYAN: OMG that Oz the Great and Powerful commercial just slayed me!! I feel like whenever I see anything about that movie time stops.
CAROLINE: Breathe, honey. It’s coming March 8th.
9:23pm
RYAN: Best screenplay goes to Django Unchained.
LEAH: Quentin is amazing but he’s so weird. I’m gonna google Quentin Tarantino aspergers.
RYAN: I appreciate that they only have TV people present TV categories and movie people for movies.
9:34pm
CAROLINE: The Foreign Language Film winner is Amour.
RYAN: That film is pretty much sweeping this year and I didn’t really enjoy it because it’s sooo sad.
9:37pm
RYAN: Lea Michelle looks toasted.
9:45pm
CAROLINE: Sacha Baron Cohen is so hot.
RYAN: I can’t believe he mentioned Anne’s up-skirt shot! That kinda crossed the line.
LEAH: Best animated feature is Brave.
RYAN: Disney had a very good year.
CAROLINE: Don’t you love Liev Schreiber introducing The Life of Pi? There’s no “The” in the title.
RYAN: That always cracks me up.
10pm
RYAN: Ok, Tina and Amy are fantastic. I’m not missing Ricky.
CAROLINE: Truly. RDJ looks great as always. And he’s high-lar. It’s a great intro to Jodie Foster.
RYAN: Jodie looks glam. I want her to work more.
LEAH: [applauds’]
RYAN: OMG I looooover her!! Contact is one of my favorite movies ever! And I just loved that retrospective. But wait. She’s coming out completely on the show. It’s amazing. That was the most moving and inspirational moment I’ve ever witnessed on an awards show. Bravo Jodie!!
10:17pm
CAROLINE: Best director goes to Ben Affleck!!
RYAN: He’s not even nominated for the Oscar! This is such a crazy year and I love it. I’m so happy for him!!
10:31pm
CAROLINE: Best actor in a comedy or musical is Hugh Jackman!
RYAN: Finally! This is when I like that the Globes break apart musical and comedy from drama. He’s wonderful.
CAROLINE: This is turning out to be quite the night. There’s a lot of joy in the room. I can feel it through the TV. It’s palpable.
10:40pm
RYAN: Best musical or comedy – Les Misérables! I’m happy. I love a movie musical and this one is one of the best. I also loved Silver Linings Playbook so so so much. But the singing live and emotional performances – Les Miz was so fantastic!
CAROLINE: I’m sorry, but I want to kill Anne Hathaway. Why is she so annoying? Her ego is ginormous. It’s not all about her.
RYAN: I love her. She’s just super manic and living her moment right now. Sure she might be a bit out of touch but most celebs are, LBH.
10:47pm
CAROLINE: Best actress drama is Jessica Chastain.
RYAN: I love her but still don’t think she did anything in this movie that warrants the love this awards season. I do, however, love her in that color! Her speech was very sweet. You can’t help but adore her.
CAROLINE: Yeah. Anne Hathaway should take a tip from her.
RYAN: And best actor drama is Daniel Day Lewis.
CAROLINE: I can’t even believe Joaquin showed up. That’s something.
RYAN: Totally. Best actor was a tough category this year and Daniel is like the Meryl of actors. He’s always a favorite. His speech was good. He was thoughtful and sincere and his words for Spielberg were very kind.
10:57pm
LEAH: Julia looks great.. a little casual though. Best picture drama goes to Argo.
RYAN: Wow. Not Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty! This is really amazing. I liked Argo better than those but didn’t expect it. Could it win the Oscar for best picture even though Ben wasn’t nominated as director at the Oscars?
CAROLINE: Right?! It rarely happpens but is possible
RYAN: It’s been such a fun, exciting night. And I already can’t wait for the Oscars!! Until then…
