SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
RYAN: This movie blew me away! I know you were looking forward to it but I was kinda feelin’ “meh” about it. But boy, was I wrong!
CAROLINE: Honey I know. I’ve been dying to see it since I first saw the trailer months ago. Welcome aboard.
RYAN: It’s my favorite movie of the year, so far.
CAROLINE: Well there’s not much of the year left.
RYAN: I’ve seen almost everything and really the only movie that might possibly top this is Les Miserables.
CAROLINE: True. So why is this your favorite film of the year so far?
RYAN: David O. Russell directs and his last film, The Fighter, was indeed my favorite of 2010 so I’m really enjoying his work lately. And I like this movie even more than The Fighter. It’s interesting, funny, dramatic, quirky and inspiring. You feel a major catharsis at the end.
CAROLINE: Wow ok. How’s the cast?
RYAN: This is the movie that turned Bradley Cooper into a serious actor and Jennifer Lawrence into a woman. She’s not “that girl from The Hunger Games” after this. She’s so good; I’m gonna write her in as Best Actress for our nominations list to the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
CAROLINE: I like her and she’s certainly one to watch. She’s enjoying quite a career.
RYAN: She really does a lot with this role. And every role in this movie is good. It’s a brilliant screenplay and these characters are like people you’d know in real life but also of the heightened-dramatic variety.
CAROLINE: I think I follow you.
RYAN: Seriously, Brad’s always been fun to watch but he’s deep in this. I’m, like, proud of him.
CAROLINE: I know. We still think of him as Will from TV’s Alias.
RYAN: Robert DeNiro and Jacki Weaver as his folks are perfect. It’s one of DeNiro’s best performances too.
CAROLINE: That says a lot.
RYAN: And Chris Tucker and Julia Stiles are also in it and great.
CAROLINE: We haven’t seen much of Julia lately.
RYAN: She has a little part but she’s good. It’s just such a strong movie. And it really covers all bases. There’s sports stuff for guys, romance and relationship issues for girls… it’s a very well developed story.
CAROLINE: I love it already.
RYAN: And much of how it’s shot reminded me of great moments in other classic movies. Especially at the end, there’s a dance scene and it’s as good as a musical number. It’s not the best dancing or chorepgraphy, but the stakes are so high for the characters at that point that it’s as moving as a great musical nonetheless.
CAROLINE: I would expect nothing less at that point.
RYAN: I just couldn’t love this movie more. I’m certainly going to own the blu ray. It deserves much love this awards season. And it’s the kind of movie I’ll remember from 2012. And I wanna watch it again with the people in my life whom I want to see it!
